G650GS Sertao Clutch

Hi, am stuck in Ulan Bataar, with a glazed/worn clutch.

I'll remove the glaze tomorrow and see if i can add spacers to the clutch to push the plates together enough to the bike going again. Thats the best idea I can come up with. No idea if it will work, or how long it will last.

Some questions I need help with:

- does someone know what the stack of plates should measure? Mine are 35.5mm.
- The fastest I can get a new set of plates from BMW is 4 weeks, its a rotax engine, is there a faster way to get a set from somewhere NOT BMW?

Thanks
NY-Lon

I will check at work on tuesday for availability of the part. I work for a bmw dealer so should be able to get the parts in a couple of days if they are available, which i imagine they will be. Dont know how long itll take to ship though never shipped something to somehwere like that. :confused2:

*Edit just checked on DHL website and they say around 3 working days

A couple of years ago I shipped a bulky bag from central Asia to the UK, using DHL, and it took just a few days in total; it's not particularly cheap - the charges are based on a standing one for the basic service + another charge based on the weight of the shipping.
But, considering what such a service achieves, it has value.

BMW minimum spec for stack is 34.94mm

Also sent you a PM about pricing and availability

To two deci places.

Is that figure of 35.5mm near enough as makes no difference in your opinion?

Bmw don't give the measurement for a new stack so can't really give an indication of how long the clutch is in its life. If the measurement has been done accurately then the clutch should still have at least .5mm left and bmw minimum specs are normally far before a part failure. I would wonder what had caused failure prematurely, wrong/poor quality oil? Incorrect clutch adjustment?
Or maybe the Bike is just heavily loaded putting alot stress on the clutch.
