fueltank R1200GSA 2006
When I drive the bike until the engine stops because there's no fuel anymore, I can only fill it with 27liters. There is always 6 liters inside the tank which isn't used. The fuel stays in the right part of the reservoir. The first time was suddenly, notting special happend.
Several dealer have been working on this problem since, no result. Any idees? Thanks, gerd |
pre 2009 GS's use a suction / secondary / scavenge pump. Sounds like either the fuel pump controller has failed and isn't working the suction pump, or the suction / secondary / scavenge pump has failed, or the hose that goes to the right side is too short or is blocked in some way. Also everything might be working, but the pump is badly worn and not transferring fuel, though it's trying hard!
A GS911 should be able to diagnose the controller and the pump. I can't see why a dealer would have an issue diagnosing it. Hope that helps! |
thanks, but that are the things they already changed... It is not so easy to find. Three years i'm searching...

The basics are simple - the scavenge pump pumps fuel from the bottom of the right tank to the left, that's it. So either the pump isn't pumping correctly, or the hose isn't all the way to the bottom of the right tank. Back to basics - make sure the pump IS pumping! IS the hose really all the way down to the bottom of the right tank? Is it possibly getting stuck up tight against the tank? Cut the end on an angle to prevent that. |
your problem
Hello Gerd,
one question to your Problem. Is the bike stopping suddenly and when it happens is the outside temperature very hot? I ask these questions because my F800GS has got the same Problem but only under the mentioned circumstances. In this case mostly the problem is the small controll unit on top of the fuel tank shutter. see the link below. https://www.bing.com/images/search?v...x=3&ajaxhist=0 Regards Axel |

I had the same problem on my R1200GS Axel, and replaced the "Fuel Pump Controller". It had nasty corrosion. I don't think that's gerd's issue though, he says he runs until it stops and it then takes 27 liters - not a full fuel load, and it sounds like he's done it a number of times consistently. |
Fuell tank
