What is the effect of little rocks pulled inside a chain ?

In South Africa I borrowed my uncle's Harley Lowrider with belt drive.
He just had a new belt after 100000 km with his original belt, driving a lot of dirt/gravel roads in South Africa and Zimbabwe so I would be not to worried about a belt on an all-road.
For spare, Harley has a "homecomming-belt" that you can fit on the road with simple tools without removing the swingarm. BMW could do that too.

They now have some SERIOUS competition with the new tenere

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...5-2#post150036

Its going to be much cheaper and already looking much more practical as a travel bike.

The 800 motor will be nicer on the road but this new tenere looks like it will be the overlanding king !

the latest news is ...21 inch front wheel, usd forks, seat height of between 890/870mm ,chain drive, 85bhp . and a price tag of over six thousand pounds .
and it is said that it look,s nothing like any of the internet mock ups or photoshops .

OK, I'll bite:
what does it look like if it does not look like the pics shown in the link here (for example)?

The specification that you mention:-

21 inch front wheel: what else on a GS?
usd forks: confirmed?
seat height of between 890/870mm: quite common on this type of bike (especially with the BMW 650s produced recently)
chain drive: been forecast for the past two years or so
85bhp: that will be the existing engine in the road bike then
price: unusual to know a price before the product is released but as a ball-park figure it is as possible as any other

If you know any more about the specification or appearance then I am sure we would all like to hear about it.

While on this topic, have you heard anything about a new 1200GS for next year??!

Hi again,
Thanks for that - it ties in with rumours I have heard recently about the 1200GS for next year; often the dealers say that they are the last to hear!!

Here's the whole post from elsewhere, copied across:-

"Not sure if you chaps have heard about the latest info given to dealer principals at the beginning of this week at a meeting:

None of the mock up pics look anything like the 800.

F800GS
21 inch front wheel, upside down forks, 890mm seat height(870 low) 85bhp chain £6k plus

F650GS
detuned 800 engine 55bhp but still 790cc(why call it a 650?) lower seat height than above approx £5250

Face lifted 1200 and 1200 adv
105 bhp engine(R1200R) reqs 98ron fuel. Looks very very different to the existing 12s. It is said that if a new and old model where side by side you could tell them apart at 100m. 1200 colours orange, blue, silver. ADV colours beige!!! and met red. price increase of £100

GX450 off road bike 50bhp under 130kg fully fuelled £5500. Something special about swing arm /chain/clutch to keep the chain tight when going over jumps.

HP2 sport HP version of the 1200S"
