F650 - which one?

Riding to India/Nepal from the UK and want to go on an F650.

What are the differences between the Funduro, GS and Dakar? Obviously I can pick up a Funduro much cheaper than a Dakar and budget is limited but I don't want false economies.

Their both good bikes, if slightly under powered and if travelling solo are a good choice. If you intend to ride alot off road then obviously the Dakar would be the better choice because of the extra ground clearance. However, the early production of the GS in the UK, both the standard and Dakar version, had a couple of glitches which were covered up by BMW mainly concerning the fuel injection. Some bikes would cut out and refuse to start leaving the rider stranded. I know, I had one and it was a nightmare. BMW refunded my money and I went elsewhere. Stay clear of the first years production models and you should be fine.

i bought a new 2003 Dakar to ride through north and south america. its back home with 40k miles on the clock and no complaints at all. its a great bike and I reckon for extra versatility over the CS and stadard GS its worth the extra money.

One tip - I'm about 5 ft 9 and went for the low seat, definnitely a good idea. And if you can - the heated grips are priceless
