F650 replacement is here !

well it,s about time too ! go over to www.ukgser.com click on forums ,and scroll down to the 650 section , there you will find pictures of the new BMW T800 twin cylinder replacement for the 650 single . this look,s very much like the bike i and many other people have wanted bmw to build for years , light [ well ,light compared to the overweight big gs ] and with a punchy, torquey powerfull engine .

I'm a little disappointed. I thought it would be a v-twin not a parallel twin and it's only a 600. Still looking forward to seeing the bike though.

Why the disappointment?

Parallel twins can be lighter, easier to work on & they're slightly cheaper to build due to fewer moving parts.

Looks like half the engine from the new K1200R? If so, it makes sense to me. In recent years V-twins have become too common IMO, with just about all manufacturers churning them out with varying degrees of success. They make no more power than an equivalent parallel twin & the V-twin's traction can be duplicated by modifying the parallel twins firing order like Yamaha did the 270 degree TRX & later TDM.

the thing is , no one knows for sure just what the final capacity will be . i have seen the prototype reffered to as the K600 and the T800 and there are sure to be two models ,one called gs, which i would think is intended more for off road riding , and an st version with more of a road bias , just like the present 650 range , what with the dakar ,and the scarver ,one for the dirt ,and one for the road . so 600cc or 800cc ? only bmw knows. also i would think that after going to all the time, trouble, and expense of developing a complete new engine design they will use it in as wide a range of bike types as possible .
