boltons for R1200GS

I hope to start a RTW in Sep.'04 with a new R1200GS. Could any experienced flat twin riders give me some advice on what Bike extras (cyl.protection bars etc.)I really should have to do the trip. Whilst I do intend to gently explore off route,I am not in training for a Paris-Dakar after all I am retired and bruise easily. Many thanks, Maja.

Maja, I am putting a 2002GS into shape for a South Africa tour this fall. I have replaced the Showas with Ohlins, added some Touratech panniers, toyed with the idea of crash bars, then went with the Touratech cylinder guards, adding also their xenon aux light in addition the headlamp as well as oil radiator protection, and finally a GPS unit. I too am old and bruise easilly so am paying attention to whats out there for skidware. I see you can add some factory expandable panniers from BMW on the 1200gs.

Best of luck

Greg
