This has been around all day and have just recovered the ability to type. Absolutely fantastic! Not laughed as much in a very long time. "Put it on e-bay"..... I'd have loved to have seen the ad. "Cut out the middle man"....

ChrisK 21 Apr 2008 23:58

It's been everywhere already :)

And it's "translated" for dozens of 'versus' purposes, Xbox vs PlayStation game consoles even.

Walkabout 22 Apr 2008 09:26

Thanks for putting it here - might never have seen it otherwise!!

Well I have only just seen it, so I guess I should spend less time on this website!:rolleyes2:

Haven't laughed so much in a long, long time - nearly fell off the chair.

palace15 22 Apr 2008 09:34

:scooter:Ace clip, laughed so much I nearly fell off my BMW.

henryuk 22 Apr 2008 09:49

chortle chortle!

mattpope 22 Apr 2008 10:06

Did anyone notice that ****wit seemed to be the translation for Stalin?

Marvelous. I must have a look at some of the other "translations" for the X-box - that's not my thing really. However the whole bike translation seems to work brilliantly - pointing at the map and explaining what happened to the VFR on the ride out makes me wonder what was going on with the x-box.....

It was a good film that one too. We just don't get enough foreign language films in the UK.

Walkabout 22 Apr 2008 11:01

A classic - "I'd rather walk"

Just watched it again: quite right about the translation, but what language is Herr Hitler speaking in anyway?

This has to be one of those films that has a new angle each time it is seen.
Proper tractor: that has to be a HD?!!

Now off to watch it again.

Tim Cullis 22 Apr 2008 12:52

He is/was speaking German. Or did I miss something and now you're laughing at me :confused1:

The subtitles are still great

Not at all Mark: It's just that I understood hardly a single word ( Mein Furher ) - I thought I would recognise a few numbers for instance (the way you do when ordering a few beers).
As it was "Downfall" (which I have never heard of) I guess I was not meant to understand!!

It's more than a good film, Tim. It is a brilliant one. Bruno Ganz, in particular, excels as Adolf Hitler with amazing attention to his mannerisms and accent.

The film also broke a taboo in Germany in that it portrays Hitler as 'human' with depth of character rather than a 'monster'.

You can see a trailer for it here to whet your appetite:
Der Untergang

onlyMark 22 Apr 2008 18:32

Walkabout - the problem is that Hitler spoke German with an Austrian accent, or so I believe. Plus the actor playing him is Swiss.
Schweitzerdeutsch (if the actor actually speaks normally like that) I can barely understand.
So - you have a Swiss actor playing an Austrian speaking German.
That's my theory, I could be way off though.

Hitler never can be considerer as a human. Never ever, maybe only if you only are looking for the most terrifying and insane part of the human been….
Sorry but I don’t want to miss this point on the funny comments about the most hilarious video about bikes in youtube.

Saludos.

Peace, Javier. It was not my intention to spoil your enjoyment of the video or to be an apologist for Adolf Hitler. Interest was expressed in the source film and I provided some background on its making.

I am very proud of my grandfather, and most proud that he and his generation sacrificed 5 years of their lives to rid the world of Nazism. The fact remains that Hitler was a person, and people have proved themselves repeatedly to be capable of extreme cruelty and brutality. At the same time, such ‘monsters’ can be loved by millions as well as family and acquaintances who know them closely. This indicates a more complex make-up than pure evil although it does not excuse the inhumanity.

In the context of German history, it was a brave decision to make Der Untergang. The film certainly does not show Hitler in a favourable manner simply because he exhibits a range of emotions. Ultimately, I feel your reaction only serves to prove what a courageous film it is.
Stephan

henryuk 23 Apr 2008 12:10

It's never been PC to show Hitler in anything other than evil in a black and white sense, along with anything he was connected to, especially in Germany and I agree that it was a brave move on the part of the film makers to maintain some balance in his portrayal. No attempt has been made to glorify or justify the man, which would be in very poor taste to say the least.

It has been impossible since WW2 for anyone to adopt any of the tenets of National Socialism, despite the fundamental political principles that brought Germany out of the crisis following reparations and placed her in a leading economic position being quite effective, and having no connection to genocide, murder or aggressive military action. Certainly a state that actively creates jobs, can rapidly improve national infrastructure and motivates its individuals so successfully could teach us something today. Same as communism has nothing in its founding principles about rounding up Tartars and sending them to the gulags.

Political success leads to power, power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely so any system that gives absolute success (which we all want) will corrupt absolutely and leave us with the Stalins, Hitlers (and dare I say it the Bush-Cheneys? time will tell..) of the world. I guess we are all buggered.

mattpope 23 Apr 2008 12:42

Come on guys, lighten up! While I don't like the current (and most of the other sixties onwards US governments) you can't really compare Bush and Cheney to Stalin and Hitler. Without going way off topic these guys do not have any intentions to wipe out entire races.

This was such a funny video it really doesn't need to get political. What I really want to know is who took the VFR in the first place.

Right...... OK, excuse my German in this case... :)
but if I understand the Godwin's law right... and I like the fact that you pointed it out.... thanks for that... :)

well if we so go back to the essence of the video clip.... for instance cutting out the Hitler related stuff... (may the middle man), you will get a pile of old rusty crap (may will say about the rival of the VFR and GS ?)... well if we get to the core of the problem or rival of the "Honda VFR" and the "BMW GS" fan club's right.... and if so.. :)

Godwin's law would say... (as far I understand) well I hope not to get lost in translation here....
well will say that the hole issue between Honda and BMW would not have risen such attention in public, as it did with this brilliant clip, if some genius would not have used the term of taking a Nazi/Hitler thing and blend it up with some modern day fan club joke right ?

In that case we would not have got together and had a good laugher about the hole thing... :)
