Selling Two Motorcycles!
We are just finishing our Pan-American ride from Ushuaia to Colombia and are selling our motorcycles! whoo bad spelling its Colombia

so now your selling in spring 2024 that's a hell of a long time from now
selling a registered moto is not like selling a plane ticket , you can change the name on a ticket and sell it no problem as long as you do it at a carriers office or travel agency On line I'm not sure
you need to take note that selling a South American plated bike in in a country other than the Country it was purchased has a lot of Complications
No.1 have the yearly taxes been paid
No.2 Yearly Vehicle inspection certificate
No.3 insurance valid for one year the time of purchase + temporary when you enter another country, Colombia Equador Venezuela you dont need if you have plates from these three counties, Chile doesn't count
You can't get away with this in Colombia they stop you all the time and are very diligent when they look at your papers its hit and miss
The Purchaser may run wild on a Poder but eventually the luck will run out unless you sell it in the country of purchase
this is just not done in SA the officials actually like to do there jobs
this is not the Wild West that you think it is
I would be amazed if someone would buy a South American moto in a country other than the country it was registered in
do your Extranjero work and enjoy the ride but talk to a transito lawyer
your best bet would be to talk to the Chilean Automotive Club It is the place to get international drivers certificate

People do very often "sell" bikes in South America using poders, sometimes repeatedly. I'd merely suggest that both buyers and sellers do their research before jumping in, and I'll note that as risks increase, prices tend to decrease.

OP, you may want to confirm that the date you give (spring 2024) is accurate. It sounds as if you mean to sell the bike much sooner if you're "just finishing" your trip.

Our original plan was to sell immediately but we had an emergency and will return to do some extra riding and then sell them. All the documents are good to go on the bike and will perform all the maintenance on the bike when I get back in a few months.

Foreign bikes from counties other than SA are bought and sold all the time it is perfectly legal

You have a Chilean registered moto
if I was a cop in Colombia and looked at the registration and see a different citizen ship on a piece of paper called I Poder I would call instant BS. the cop would think its stollen
go back to Chile
you have no idea what the problems you will present trying to sell a chilean moto in Colombia especially to a foreigner you cant do this
not even a Colombian will touch it for a hundred bucks for both
Buying a motor vehical has responsibilities you are registered in the government
so be a good citizen and pay like everyone else
I am a responsible foreign citizen in Colombia that follows the Rules
