FOR SALE: 2008 VStrom 1000 in Punta Arenas

Hey Folks. The time has almost come. After 2+ years of traveling full-time on my VStrom 1000 from New York to Argentina, my bike will be available for sale. I left New York 9/10/21 and have ridden that bike more than 50,000 miles across North and South America. Bike will have roughly 90,000 miles when sold - although that number is likely closer to 83, maybe 85,000 as I changed the sprocket ratio right before I left Texas last October.

It's not perfect; it's been down once or twice and dropped more than a few times. The forks are straight, but the seal on the right fork is shot. I'm going to try and repair it in Mendoza before I head south, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get that done in the timeframe I have. The crash bars have done their jobs, and the skid plate has proven it's worth 1000-times over. She runs pretty darn well at 4500m, and like a dream at sea level.

The engine is solid. I had the compression checked in Colombia and the numbers were dead center of the spec range. The rear shock is a Hyperpro shock and the front forks have Hyperpro progressive springs - both are just over a year old. The rear shock will be serviced in Mendoza prior to selling.

Brake pads will have less than 1500 miles on them by date of sale, and the rear tire about 2,000.

It's a beautiful machine that easily has 50,000 miles in it before it'll need any major engine work. I had the cam chains replaced, a valve job done, and a full tune-up done when I was in Colombia. Oil change 500 miles back in Lima. It also has a WERKS Clutch Basket to help deal with the notorious clutch "chudder" on the DL1000. It doesn't remove it entirely, but you should've felt it before I installed the basket lol.

I'll be keeping the side cases - they're Pelican 1600s that have been with me since the start. I can assure you that you don't want them - the seals are shot, same with the hinges, and they leak like crazy. The hop case will stay on - it's a Pelican 1550.

It's a beautiful green color that I had painted right before I left New York. If you want, I can remove the stickers or leave them.

This bike has been my home for two years. I would love to be able to ship it back to the US and keep it as a conversation piece, but shipping costs are too high nowadays. I simply can't afford it.

I'm aiming to get 3k for it - I think that's fair considering the recent work that's been done, the tendency for these engines to go to 150k without needing major work, and the fact that it's a large-displacement bike in South America. That said, make me an offer; I'll need to sell it before returning to the US.

I'd like to do this in Punta Arenas right around December 1st-5th. I'm currently in Salta heading South. I figure seven weeks will get me to Ushuaia and then Punta Arenas without much issue. The sale would be done with the help of a local mechanic who has experience helping travelers sell motorcycles in PA. I hope to have this done above board so I don't have issues returning with motorcycles in the future.
