2020 Yamaha XTZ250 in Colombia June 2025 (Fully equipped)
https://www.webdale.co.uk/xtz250/IMG_1185.jpg Note: More photos below Basics $4,000 (17,500,000 cop) 2020 Yamaha XTZ250 1 owner from new ~48,000km / 30,000miles (Will be ~5,000km more when finished) All servicing & maintenance complete as per manual Major services and strips downs at 20k & 40k Lots of history and receipts. 2x set of keys. Description My South American travel companion ‘Figaro’ is up for sale after 5 years of ownership. After buying him new in Colombia in 2020, in three separate trips I will have completed my South American loop down to Ushuaia and back. I am currently on route to Colombia to finish in June 2025. He’s been totally reliable since leaving the showroom in Medellin, having only needed the regular maintenance as per the manual and a new clutch sensor that was faulty when it was first delivered which they replaced. Anything else he’s needed he’s gotten, the vast majority of which were done by Yamaha dealerships or specialists at major cities along the way. During the pandemic I fully prepared him for the long journey with many ‘off-road adventure’ upgrades, some of which I had brought from the UK, some are custom made, and some that became available during the first year of the bikes’ release in early 2020. The bike has been used as it was designed for as a long-range dual-sport, on all types of terrain from single track to highways. The bike is most suited for twisty mountain roads and trails, but is light enough (150kg from factory) to handle more technical single track and is happy to cruise all day long between 80-90kph on highways if required. It will do 100kph+ but at the cost of comfort and fuel economy. I’ve been all the way up to 5000m and the bike performed admirably without needing any adjustments. I documented a fair bit of my trips with Figaro on my instagram (@jackinthesaddle), mixed with trips on other bikes. It has never wanted for anything as it was important for me to keep him reliable and ready before, during and after each trip where it was kept in dry storage. Although he’s not aesthetically perfect and shows signs of use as a proper adventure bike he is solid, well maintained and reliable. When I finish this leg of the journey (and my ownership) he’ll be going back into the Yamaha dealership for a major service and check-up to prepare him for his next adventure. I’ll also be tidying him up aesthetically, treating some minor surface rust spots from stone chips and friction between luggage / boots on the bars. I have a friend/contact in Bogota that can help with transferring ownership to the new owner, which should take 3 to 4 days. Once you have your new ownership card you will be able to cross borders with ease throughout South America as I have. I can also provide a list of recommended things to bring that work well with the setup like additional luggage items and tools (as I am taking some with me to my other bike) and a few useful spare parts for the luggage you can get on ebay/amazon. I’m also happy to stay in touch and answer any questions about the bike during your travels. Range With his standard 14L tank it has roughly around 350-400km range. I’ve had it go to 450km with favourable conditions and using the generous 3.7L reserve. Only once in Bolivia and once in Argentina did I need to carry extra fuel (in plastic bottles), and that was by choice as I was taking some long, off-the-beaten path routes. Fuel economy Average of 30-35km/l when cruising at 80-90kph, Average of 28-30km/l off tarmac. Size It has a full size frame, very similar to a CRF250/300 (I own a CRF300Rally and it has a very similar feel). I’m 5’10 (178cm), with 33cm inseam and my boots are flat on the floor. The riding position is about right for me and not cramped. With the bars adjusted and with the off-road wide pegs standing is also comfortable. Suspension The suspension is far better (firmer) than my CRF300 Rally which I had to upgrade to cope with my luggage. On the highest pre-load this bike handled it all just fine, even with an occasional pillion. Five years on, if I were to plan on doing it all again I think this is still the best choice available on the continent, if the focus was a solo ‘go anywhere’ adventure bike. It’s light, simple, economical, easy to get parts (it’s made in Brazil and sold throughout south america) but also has the modern touches that make life easier/safer with front ABS, fuel-injection, LED lights, and digital display computer with fuel gauge, rev counter, fuel economy readings, trip computer etc. For full specs and details of the bike you can see them on the Yamaha Colombia website: https://www.incolmotos-yamaha.com.co.../xtz250a/2266/ Bike Modifications / Accessories No expense was spared kitting him out for proper adventure riding. Just wanted to say that this looks like a good deal.
I live in Colombia with my wife and son. Motorcycles and cars are kind of expensive in Colombia, but the good thing is that you will get your money back when you go to sell the motorcycle used, because the resale value of motorcycles and cars is very high here. Colombia is one of the very easy countries for a foreigner to buy a motorcycle and get it registered to them. You do not want to buy a used motorcycle from a Colombian, because for whatever the reason, in Colombian culture there is a lot of dishonesty when it comes to selling used things like motos, cars, laundry machines, computers, and fridges. They will rip their grandma off here. It is better to buy a motorcycle new or buy it from a foreigner. The 2020 Yamaha XTZ 250 is a good model here because it is fuel injected and they sell a lot of that model in Colombia, because it is a great bike for the curves and the dirt roads here. It is light enough that you can pick it up with ease. I have a AKT 200 TT because they are the cheapest half decent bike in Colombia, but I only have a carbed 13 hp which sucks high up in the mountains. The XTZ 250 is fuel injected and 20 hp, so this bike has a much more powerful engine for the mountains than my carbed 13 hp which literally gets down to 5 mph sometimes in the high passes. This bike is turnkey ready, you don't need any parts and when you go to sell you will get 75% of your money back. |
Thanks for the kind words Mr.Gato. Thanks to this forum it looks like i've found a new rider for Figaro, all being well :thumbup1:
