What's thepaperwork process upon arrival in Sydney?

Hi All,
I will be arriving in Sydney in November with my F650 and a Carnet. All the researsh I've done suggests the process differs between states so I'd like to know what the process is in Sydney; from customs clearance through to registration, insurance (legal minimum) and anything else I need to be aware of. I'll be arriving by air from New Zealand and will be riding through all states during my visit.
If anyone can enlighten me I'd be most greatful.

Still in NZ?
If you are down south drop me an email. There is usually a beer, a bed and a shed here for travelers.

Regards

My Honda ST1300 arrives in Sydney in late October, on its return from the UK (western Europe tour). I have been advised:
  1. I can track the container carrying my bike (and the vessel) on the Web - which I have been doing to plan my trip down from Brisbane to pick up the bike
  2. Once the vessel arrives in Sydney it will take 2 days to get the container to the unpack depot
  3. It then will take another day to unload it and have the bike and & stuff Quarantine inspected
  4. Quarantine do NOT work on weekends. As the ship is due to arrive on a Thursday, I probably won't need to be at the depot until the Tuesday
  5. I need to be there to be ready to unlock panniers & topbox for quarantine inspection
  6. Quarantine will probably be especially particular as I am coming in from the UK where Foot & Mouth showed its ugly head again
  7. The Agent has always had problems with Sydney - with Customs, Quarantine and transport from the docks to the depot due to traffic
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Info still needed please

Thanks for your reply John but I'm afraid that's not the info I'm after.
My bike is registered in the UK and I'm taking it into Oz on a Carnet where as yours is registered in Oz.
It's how and where I register and insure it (for use in all states) that I'm particularly interested in.
After my experience of sea freighting to NZ from Malaysia, and thanks to the quote I've been given, I'll be airfreighting to Sydney.

The good news:
You are not up for full registration. Just a bit .. but nowhere near as much as you'd go through to get it really registered here.

The expected news .. $. You are best off going to the local office and sort it out there. The bike will take a little time to arrive, unpack .. so you can usually get to the rego office first and get the facts face to face, find out what forms need to be filled in (take the forms with you - fill them out in another que), and how much $. Then get over to the airport and got through the customs/quarantine thing, back to the rego office with all the paper work done. The rego offices are only openm normal business hours Monday to Fri .. some are open Sat morning. - Linky RTA Home Page You may find things on the link .

At the airport quarantine may work on the weekends... but maybe not.

Thank You

Thanks for the 'Good News' Frank. I've had a look at the RTA website and emailed them.
I arrive on a Thursday and hope to have sent my bike a day or two before so hopefully I can get everything sorted before everyone clears off for the weekend.
