Tent repair shop in NZ?

Hi!

We are travelling around the world with two motorcycles and a tent.
After nearly two years the tent zippers are done. It won´t work to replace just the clippers (is that the right word?). New zippers are necessary.

Can you recommend any repair shop for outdoor equipment in New Zealand?
We are not looking for an outdoor-shop, where we could buy a new tent, but a repair shop!

Cheers

Panny

I once had a bouldering mat made in New Zealand. And I found a foam manufacturer down there. However, to get it sewn, I looked up "awnings" in the yellow pages and contacted a shop. They were a bit outside Christchurch, if I recall correctly. They had some extremely sturdy zippers as well as some thinner ones.

I know it's not an address, but perhaps a little help. Good luck :)

If you don't get a specific response here, you could do worse than going into a good outdoor shop and asking about repairs. I worked in an outdoor shop (in Scotland, I'm afraid!) and we often used to send tents away for repair to a company in Stirling. I would expect a similar business to exist in NZ. Hope this is of some help at least! :)

Panny, find a harbour and a local sail maker. They usually are brilliant when it comes to heavy duty sewing.

and look up a member on here called Beddhist who offers accom to overlanders - he has put a note in accom.section and lives on north island just South of Whangarei.
He might know or know someone who does.

I think I found one!

Thanks for that, too!

Hi,
Tent Town is the best place in Auckland for anything to do with tents. The chap can fix them and he has all kinds of bits and pieces.
Tent Town is at the top of Bond St, Kingsland, which is about 4k from the central city.

Hi Panny,
Good to hear. The address is 399 New North Road, Kingsland. But the easy entrance to find is from Bond St.
Bond St is a left hand turn off Great North Rd as you leave the city. The entrance to Tent Town is just past the church on the left hand side as you get to the top of Bond St.
The Atomic coffee shop in Kingsland (just to the right of Bond St on New North Rd) make great coffee if you have to wait for your tent to be repaired. And Shaky Isles (a little further through Kingsland on the left hand side) is a neat place for a bite to eat and again pretty good coffee.
Ivan
