Post-crash issues Kalbarri, WA

Hi all,

Only a couple of days ago I set off on a trip from Perth to Adelaide via Darwin & I've already somehow managed to get myself into a serious jam. I ditched the bike on a corrugated deep sand over bitumen road in Kalbarri National Park. My gear did its job and I'm pretty ok considering, the bike's unfortunately seen much better days with handlebars bent way out of shape, throttle bent and locked, headlight casing smashed, main speedo console bent in towards the steering bar (though surprisingly still working from a brief overlook), engine crash bars bent (but thankfully did their job also), there's probably more but those were the highlights before finding a room for the night to nurse the aches and pains became the priority.
It's currently sitting in a RAC repair show in Kalbarri while I settle overnight on what the next best step is.

My first instinct is to claim on my comprehensive insurance though I've never had to make a claim before and have a few concerns,
Does anyone know if National Park roads are generally covered?, I couldn't find anything in the wording of the policy about it.
I also have a feeling I never updated my new interstate rego with the insurer as well. I'm really hoping this wouldn't impede them paying out....
Another concern is this may either leave me stranded here for a substantial amount of time jumping through hoops or I may have to go back to Perth for a BMW motorad dealer to work on it.

When it comes down to it I think I'll just have to call the insurer in the morning and hope it all works out for the best......

Any input however would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Ben

Sorry to hear about your accident and glad to hear that you are OK.

Unless there has been a change (I left Oz 9 years ago) National Park Roads are deemed as roads and therefore do not void insurance coverage, unless yours happens to explicitly state otherwise. All of my insurance policies covered me for "formed roads" and I have personally witnessed incidents in NSW that required insurance settlements and no problems arose.

The change in registration plate may be an interesting, especially if you have relocated the vehicle between states.

Good luck and I hope it works out.

Thanks Dale,

Well the good news is that the insurance company seem to be covering it without issue, the bad news is that the bike has to be transported back to Perth where who knows how long everything will be delayed, fingers crossed it doesn't drag on too long.
All things considered though, not a bad outlook for a bloody rubbish situation...

Good to hear that the insurance company has come to the party! bier

Sounds like you have an unscheduled stop in Perth from your trip. It could be worse and you sound like you have the right view on the situation!

Get back on the road soon!
