outback roads / trip planning
Hi there,
me and an old friend we are just starting to plan our "20th-anniversery-africa-trip"-trip. We're thinking about a ten week offrod journey through the australian outback and are looking for information especially about the following tracks Anne-Beadell-Hwy Connie-Sue-Hwy Great Central Rd / Gunbarrel Hwy Has anyone any (motorcycle related) information about that "highways"? The rough route-planning by now is: Sydney, Flinders Ranges, Oodnadatta Track, a hook into the west over the above mentioned, than Uluru and the Macdonells Ranges, than possibely the Tanami Rd and back south the Stuart Hwy and back east the Plenty Hwy to the Qld-coast for a little bit of diving and relaxing, then back to Sydney. We'll going there with our own KTM 640s by plane/ship. Any suggestions? Thanx a lot Gerd may long you run |
Hemma desert tracks maps.
You will need to look at fuel range and water and food carring. For Anne-Beadell -800 km range. 5 days water and food. I assume you will go to Laverton to get petrol.. if you don't and use the upper bit of the Connie sue hwy add another 400 odd (I think) km to you required fuel range!!!!! Note that the Connie Sue is very over grown - you should take bark Busters to stop the shrubs activating the front brake or clutch depending on what wheel track you decied to ride in. Lots of sand in these trips. The rest are easy by comparision. As long as it does not rain. Thanx Frank.
Yes. Our plan by now is: west the Anne-Beadell to Neale Junction, then north the upper bit of Connie-Sue to Warburton. Exploroz is speaking about a new roadhouse between the SA/WA-border and Neale Junction. So we need fuel and supplies for 750 km. I'm not sure how to carry all this. But thats another problem. Are your information about the road conditions ("lots of sand", "over growen") first hand? If yes, what kind of vehicule did you use? And when was it? I'm only asking because I read a lot of contradictionary road descriptions (even about Connie-Sue I read its very easy, mostly wide track with only a few dunes). Some roads are a lot of fun on a bike and the hell in a car and vice versa. Rain will we be the most unpredictable part of our journey. We are trying to find a time of the year not to cold in the south-east and not to wet in the north. So we focus on march/april/may, but really are not sure about this. Again, thanx Gerd p.s.: what is a K75 G/S? Did you customize a K75 for off road use? ************* may long you run ************* |

But we have more trouble with slipper stuff - sand and mud where they don't fall over. Never the less Exploroz is probably the best info you are going to come up with.
