Legal Stuff

I was a bit of an out of control pup while on an extended visit to Oz 11 years ago. 40 parking tickets, 5 speeding fines, one drink driving offence in New South Wales and abandoning the Kingswood when it left the road in northern Queensland. Nothing to be proud of and some disapproving souls are going to tell me to stay away - well I was 21 and lacking in sense, but would like to include Oz in my 2 year meander around the globe.
Does anyone know will I be allowed in, how much of a penalty I'd have to pay: and cheekily I know, is there a statue of limitations on motoring offences.?
Lesson learned, can I return?

If you didn't pay the fines, there's probably a warrant out for your arrest!
You won't get in with a crim. record.
Check at the embassy first.

Not the bloody Kingswood!!!! (In-house aussie joke . . . .)
Cheers

Oh, I know nothing about Aussie law enforcement, but I can't help thinking that you reap what you sow. Maybe that's a bit harsh, on second thoughts.
We've all been 21 once, but that was quite a number of 'tickets' to ratchet up. What were you up to?

I've had a few traffic and parking fines in my time also, nothing serious, but the sheriff visited my parents place once with a warrant for the seizure of my property. Apparently after 5 or 6 years fines are generally written off.
As a student I once took a fine to court and pleaded poverty. I was allowed to work the fine off in community service (20 dollars an hour tax free!).

Mate you are buggered.. :thumbdown:you may well have a bench writ against you.. although the fines maybe written off the crime of not paying wont be,, sorry.., you will get held up at the visa end of things.. It would pay you to contact the embassy and confirm this, but I have herd of people with far less of a sheet getting kicked back... :oops2::thumbdown:

Not a problem

Been there, done it, not had a problem going back several times since. Aside from the Drink driving charge which I don't know if it has any affect, the rest doesn't. You might hit problems if you wanted to buy and register an Aussie car there because that might show up on the RTA database. However even then, unless you are on an Aussie license and still trying to use it then they probably won't connect the two. Its not going to connect through to having a criminal record because they wouldn't be able to serve notice for criminal proceedings etc. Its likely to have expired, archived off, etc and unless you are going to try and find and resurect the Kingswood then they are unlikely to connect the whole thing anyway.

Of course, if they take you round the back of Sydney airport and give you a good kicking before chucking you on the first plane back out then I'm just been quite luckly and complete misjudged the situation.
