cheap campground and recommended news paper

Hi guys,

I finally managed to set everything up and I sould hopefullz arrive in Darwin on the 15th of May, + - one or two days maybe. That means I'm only 10 months late, hui.

So now for the questions:

Wat would be the cheapest and not too far out, from the harbour or transport, camp ground to await my bike arriving from Dili?

I found this one thread here:
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...darwin+camping

But are Hostels really as cheap as camping? Just thought I ask.

And 2:

What is the best local newspaper to look out for, in terms of shared apartments or share houses available? I assume job offers will be the same one?

cheers guys
tim

Hi. It's six years since I was in Darwin, but as far as I can recall there is only one newspaper there -- the Northern Territory News.

Darwin people seem to like it but it has a very poor reputation in the rest of Australia because of its frequent beat-ups about crocodiles and UFOs.

I honestly think you will be better off at any of the backpackers along Mitchell St. Prices for backpackers and camp sites are much of a muchness - $15 per night, but the insects are voracious when camping out. I lasted one night at Shady Glen before moving into backpacker accommodation.

And I lasted one night in a backpacker dormitory with 5 teenagers that had'nt been washed for weeks, came in at two o'clock talking loudly AND additionally creaking beds, before I took a private room at the hostel. :(

Can't help you there -- just remarking that it's the only place you're likely to find any newspaper classified ads.

Try the Seek website for Aussie jobs. Seek dominates the market.

Perhaps searching for the 'tentspace' thread on advrider. I've met some great people through that site and have been wecomed into homes around the world by trying to help fellow HU folks.

Hope this helps
