Canning Stock Route on motorbike in May/June
 

having been planning to do the CSR by XR650R, my riding partner may not be able to make it this year.

I arrive in Perth in late April and would like to do the CSR in late May/June.

if you're interested in doing it and have a suitable vehicle, let me know. even with a fuel drop, the CSR requires 1000km range which rules out almost all bikes and many cars. I'll be travelling light and am not looking for a car to carry my gear, but a car + bike team could be better and worse than 2 bikes!

failing that, see you on the Gunbarrel as I'm not doing the CSR solo!

Hi. We are a group og five persons that was planning to drive the csr from north to south. After asking some questions around, we found out that you HAVE to use a support car,and they dont do fueldroops anymore because of people are stealing the fuel. The cost of a supportcar is 10500,-NOK/person + the cost of fuel.. Send me your email if whant more of the info we got..

It's not possible to travel the Canning Stock Route without at least one 4WD in the convoy, and even then two or more is better. Even if you fit the longest of long-range tanks, you're left with an overladen bike with nowhere to carry the 3L/person/day water requirement you'll need to make the trip in any degree of safety.

I'm going to be in the Outback on my PD near the middle/end of May. I plan to ride the Plenty or Sandover Highway, and the Tanami, as well as a visit to Ayer's Rock and King's Canyon. I won't be riding the BMW on the CS though :-)

Let me know if anyone's going to be in Alice around that time. Perhaps we can hook up for a beer or to share some stories. Or if you're interested in riding these routes let me know - it would be good to have company on the long remote stretches.

If you are realy set on doing the Canning ,consider getting someone to meet you with fuel and water via the Tanami Track,or they can bury the containers in a marked spot either GPS position or a map showing exact distance in meters from intersection of Canning and Tanami.Leave somekind of supptle worthles marker that only your group will recognise. Make sure they rake the dirt over and no one else sees them burying it.99% of travelers in western Australia are honest and helpful,but still take precautions.It cost a fortune to get recoverd from this remote region.Happy travels

- near Well 33).
The [Capricorn Roadhouse] fuel dump at Well 23 is no longer necessary for most vehicles now that this community is fully established to cater for all needs of tourists on the track.

HI all I am in Ghana at the Mo after 20 000 K,s and 6 months in west africa, i am planning to ride from Perth to home in Darwin in Late May, June.
havent decided yet what route but the Canning could be on the cards, along with the Pilbara region, Kimberly etc.
Exporting the bike KTM 640 out of Accra Ghana at the mo and awaiting the Approval paperwork.
Does anyone know of a good ktm dealer in perth or fremantle.

I know 6 people who have done the canning unsuported on motorcycles. It can be done but it does take a lot of preperation and planing.

No point in having someone meet you on the tanami or doing a fuel drop there, a fuel station is there!!!
