Buyback available in New Zealand
 

I will be in New Zealand next year for 3 to 4 months and so need to buy a bike because renting is prohibitively expensive

Does anyone know of a garage offering a buyback program?

Alternatively, if I buy a bike privately, how much should I expect to lose as a percentage on a fast sale?

Alternatively, are there garages that will sell the bike on my behalf for a commission?

Any tips or advice? Highly appreciated.

My information may be a little out of date -- When I was visiting NZ I enquired about a repurchase scheme for motorcycles in Takapuna north of Auckland. Yes a couple of the dealers would do a repurchase scheme.

I shipped my motorcycle to NZ a year later for an extended tour. I met up with a couple of people from UK who each purchased a bike on a guaranteed repurchase scheme. Kawasaki 800's from memory. This was about four years ago.

They purchased from dealers in Takapuna (northern suburb of Auckland) where there are many motorcycle shops. I exchanged emails with the guys after they returned to UK. Their costs they told me worked out at about half the cost for a rental bike. One required a new rear tyre but that is expected for the time they had the bikes.

I suggest a web search - motorcycle dealers in Takapuna. Send an email and ask for conditions - if that shop does not do repurchase ask them who does. This seemed to work for the UK guys. All the best. NZ motorcycle touring is really good!!
