Bike service in Darwin
I am currently in Darwin awaiting my bike to be released from customs. It is in need of a good service. Can anyone recommend anyone decent in Darwin or should I wait until I get over to the east coast. The bike us a BMW 1150GS.
Many thanks |
Welcome to Aus. The Ulysses Motorcycle club are a very helpful bunch. They will answer all your questions. They meet at the North Darwin RSL club in Karama on a Tuesday at 5pm. Their contact is Jeff Wilson but I have no phone number for him. Their web site is topendulysses.tripod.com
If your bike is coming via Perkins ask them if they have a Ulysses Club members contact phone number. The Ulysses Club is a very well known Australia wide club. |
Hi, I tried to get my F650 serviced in Darwin, the company is only setting up and is a Hyundi Car Dealership, not very helpful and blame everything on transportation costs and delays from Melbourne. I needed a 20000k service before venturing to Singapore. Run out of time and arranged the service at Performance Motorcycles Singapore! Best of Luck.
As David and Cheryl mentioned, check out the Ulyses Clubs, over 12,000 members in OZ, or the BMW motorcycle clubs, the have all got web sites. Cheers Tom |
Hi,
We had the same experience in Darwin at the BMW dealer. No spark plugs!!!!!! I had to get my own fork oil for them to do. I've heard there is a place called Baxters Engineering I think. Supposed to be the place to go. This maybe too late for you but someone else may need the info. Good riding!! |
Forget Darwin - Nearest will be Alice Springs - east Coast will be Mackay - Cairns BMW is usless as a workshop - they send the bikes to a Kawasaki Dealer -
What do you need to service anyway? - Drop the oil - do the gearbox and rear drive - valves have enough tollerance to wait til you get south anyway - If you feel you have a day or so to spare and the place, do it yourself - look for the Adventure Riders site - they have a PDF file to download that is as easy as ABC on oil head maint. |
Hi there mate
I just went through Darwin myself and had dramas with the BMW people as well. Don't know why they even take on a dealership like this if they are not interested?? Anyway, I have had very good service from Baxters, talk to Clive there or if you go through Katherine call in and see Rodger or John there. They are more than helpfull, Rodger even changed my tyre for free as I took the wheel off myself. I must say they are some of the most helpful people around that I have found for us people who are travelling. Ok, keep the sunny side up! Cheers Ivan |
