Don't think Indo will be easy, I come in the same way from Penang last April and Island hopped all the way to East Timor. Give yourself more than the 30 day visa allowed in Madan. Get a 60 day visa from the Indo Embassy in Malaysia.
I got to the East Timor border on the last day of my visa. Expect ferry delays, terrible traffic and road conditions.
If you survive Indo. Oz is easy, just bloody big. And get your bike serviced at the Honda dealership in Darwin before you head off, you will need it. Indo can hurt you.

I've just done the same trip. From penang to Sumatra and island-hopped the way down. It's true what tomforde said.Be sure you get a 60 day visa,you need it to go all the way. Then i spend 3 months in Oz travelling the outback.Bloody fantastic! Let me know or i can be any help for anyone who wants to go that way.
