Hi rob. Are you coming to the HU meeting too? You don't need to be ona bike to be there. The beer will be just as cold and the spit roast lamb will taste just as good!

Cheers

Nigel and Lee

Hello, figure i'd have my say.

Quite honestly the comraderie here, and open support amongst other travellers, is what makes this place so special.

An offer so sincere, and warm, does not come around that often.

I've never done a long trip, but i'd respect that kind of helping hand if it came out of the blue.

You can't be in distress if you've decided that offer doesn't suit you.

I'm sure there won't be any girls around to see what you look like.

Your call, but dissapointing attitude, for a man in distress.

There seems to be a bit of a theme here Jophiel!

I'd definitely take up what is a very generous offer and have no doubt that finishing/continuing your trip on 100cc bike will only add the adventure you're having!

People do winter tours around the Apls on vespas so riding around the biking Nirvana that is NZ guarentees you'll have an absolute blast!

And at the very worst it's alot better that sitting round waiting for your broken bike to come back to life!

jophiel 12 Feb 2009 00:08

Whoa, steady there! I don't mean to be picky at all, it's just that (before these posts) everybody'd been telling me it couldn't be done on anything less than a 250cc.I stand corrected!

At the moment I'm travelling by hitchhiking and so far I'm enjoying it. Not the same freedom as on a bike though.

Nigel: When I come Chch I'd love to come check it out! I have some concerns about how to get it back to you when headed to the north island, but I always overthink those things so I'm sure I'll find a solution once we meet. For now I'll let it rest and be thankful for your offer :)

Right now I'm in queenstown, and I can't see further than a couple of days into the future, location wise. I'd very much like to come to the meet, but on the other hand I'm loath to rush through this country, as there's so much to see! Chances are 50/50 I think.

G'Day mate

Hi jophiel, nice to hear from you. Just so the others know, by the login records, it looks like you had not been back to the HUBB since the 5th, so you would not have a chance to see the replies of everyone else.

I'm looking forward to meeting you. Depending on other comings and goings, there is sometimes a caravan free for travellers.

Kind regards

Nigel in Christchurch.

Sounds good :)

I just remembered that I should probably tell you that I'm a pretty big guy (6'4"), so I don't really fit onto small vehicles. Especially with luggage. We'll see how it works out when I get there though.

And yeah, I sometimes find it hard getting to reliable connections in NZ, so bear with me if my answers are a long time coming.

Hi Nigel -Rob in Oz

Hi Nigel,
Thanks for the invitation. Its very appealing.I'm meeting an American mate, Tom, I last saw trekking around Darjeeling for a few days. He is an ultra marathon runner, so I'm thinking this could be a full on bolt.
I have 2 weeks in SI landing on 19/2. He asked do I want to hitch immediately from airport straight to trackhead (Mt Cook area).
I'd like to see if I can get a tourer bike for pleasure and transport or a rent a ruffy station wagon if need be as we'll camp all the way.
As there's no direct communication with Tom, also a rider with no phone and he's runs a marathon about each week in the mountains. The answer is
If we're still in CCH on 21, there is no place we'd rather be than bringing along a beer and chops to share with you and the HUBB'ers.
On Wednesday 19, we'll find if the pull of the road and mountains is so strong we can't resist getting out immediately into your great country.
I'll let you know beforehand when I land.
I've only been to one HUBB meeting at Tintaldra , NSW last year and it was one of the best experiences of my life.
If you happen to know anyone who would want to rent any off road tourers for 2 weeks. I ride an BMWR80 GS at home. Then we be happy to share the bucks around if not being used. Otherwise a dealer with a buyback in CCH might be practical. I'm sure I'll kick myself if I ride your roads in a car!
Cheers, Rob
