Morocco October 2008 report

3 Attachment(s)
I started typing out my trip report at work but it started to get really big, filling no less than 5 pages on word. Therefore i have decided not to post it here, but you can read it in the overland section of my website here:

I will (hopefully) attach some pictures here to for inspration and encouragment.

In a nutshell, it was our 1st overland trip, 1st time in Africa, 1st time driving abroad (only had a licence for 3 years:eek3:) and we did it solo in a Land Rover 90. 4 weeks, 4350miles across Morocco in October 2008.

Enjoy.

Nice one Griffdowg, thanks for sharing.:thumbup1:

Like the website, are you going to give us all some more detail on the actual route/pistes I.E what were your information sources, GPS waypoints etc?

Cheers,
Russ

The route is shown (roughly) on the snapshot of google earth on my site. The route is also well explained in the report (i think :confused1: ). We used Chris's book :thumbup1: combined with T4A mapping and the free map you can get off the net. We actually used the free map MORE than T4A as it had more on it. I also got a fair bit of info off a fellow LR owner on another forum.

We stuck to tarmac and pistes at all times. no off piste work as we were a solo vehicle and didnt want to push it. coverd around 550 miles on piste including the todra/dades gorges and a few down south towards Zagora. then the piste from Zagora to foum Zgeud. The long piste from Erg Chebbi across to zagora was cut off by flood water. I have seen many people posting on here and elsewhere that were also affected by this (Chris S is one, not sure if Tim Cullis was around that way too) we met many bikers from Europe also disapointed they couldnt do this route. me included.

We also "found" a piste in the High Atlas that was not on the maps or the GPS maps. It was an absolute gem, running approx 50km east of Jbel Toubkal north to south for arond 100km. Only saw 1 local vehicle who confirmed our destination was at the end of the piste. What a joy to drive.

While im here i would like to thank Tim for his excellent knowledgebase on the UKGSer forum. put my mind at ease when crossing the border. Thanks

we also met Jean out there too. I noticed he has posted a bit here. We bumped into him around Zagora and Sidi Ifni. Jean if your reading... Hi!

If anyone wants to know any particulars feel free to ask.

Dell Axim 51v GPS in Morocco

Hi there had a look at your site really cool! I was wondering what map type & version and what software type & v you used to run it - I have a Dell Axim 51v too. Did it all work OK and any pointers/comments?
Cheers Nick

Recently (just now) finished compiling a photo slideshow using Animoto software for Morocco using my best pictures from around Morocco along with my own soundtrack. Its come out really well, see what you think.
