Iceland Summer 2014
Currently planning a summer trip to Iceland and just looking for a good heads up on which are the better cross country routes to take, looking for some interesting driving but not too extreme and which won't risk the vehicle too much... plan is ferry in two weeks on the isleand and then back. Proposed route is anti clockwise to Reykjavik, meet the girlfriends at the airport for a weeks travelling, then back to the ferry.
Any recommendations to camp sites or highlights then also please shout up.... If anyone else is planning a trip and want to link up let me know.. Cheers, Josh |
Hi Josh,
There are two major pistes north-south, the Kjolur and the Sprengisandur. Both very beautiful and do-able. Camp wild! http://www.geehurkmans.com/blogs/IMG_1203.jpg driving a beautiful piste near Landmannalaugar Cycling the Kjolur and Sprengisandur in Icelands interior - YouTube Travel safe, Gee |
Booking the ferry in time to get a cabin stopped me going in 2013. The ferry operators website is a night mare.

I follow the thread..I'm very interested too. Just to have an idea how is the ferry cost for a 4x4?
