From France to Japan in a sport Car through central Asia
Hello
This summer I make a great trip, something probably never done before in this specific way. I used my sports car, stiff as wood, and cross 2 continent. So I join France to Japan in a TwingoRS Using inapropriate car make things much more epics to leave (even if the car was a bit prepared for the trip) You can found all my pictures here : https://www.facebook.com/RSoverland/...homepage_panel Video : https://youtu.be/5MF2S95i6PU Cheers https://scontent-nrt1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...7c&oe=5B3149BE https://scontent-nrt1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...39&oe=5B417747 Instagram https://www.instagram.com/mazfunkyto/ |
Nice choice of car! And a nice trip as well.
We will be doing a lot of the same countries this year. And we will also go to Japan, using the DBS ferry. Can I ask how you shipped the car back from Japan to Europe? Using RoRo? I know this is possible and done before, but it is hard to get a shipping quote (I think because they think it is difficult because it isn't a Japanese car) |
I'm sorry. I didn't send back the car to europe for the moment ^^
I'm still using it in Japan you can contact this French they send back their motorbike : https://www.facebook.com/directionja...5Q&pnref=story when do you plan to go ? which car ? (or vehicule) |
Ah ok, you are still there :)
So you are using it on a Carnet du Passage? We will go with a 4x4 Hiace campervan. Shipping a motorbike back is different, as they cannot use RoRo ferry. We can use that, and there are many boats going to many European harbors. I just want to find out the costs. |
mmm
I'm sorry I dont know anaything about send it back... I'm more looking for importation ^^ I'm using the car with CPD can use it one year after should be send back or imported (cost a lot) this Hiace campervan look perfect for overlanding (a bit like a Delicia but more hippie style ^^) Enjoy dont hesitate to ask me question (if I dont respond here, through my facebook page) |
Hi thanks, have fun in Japan.
Yeah the 4x4 Hiace is much like the Mitsubishi vans, but more space inside. We want to import it on a temporary import paper, which is valid for maximum 3 months. And then have the car leave through RoRo ferry. Anyway, I'm sure we will find a way. How did you do the ferry from Vladivostok to Japan. Did you arrange it in advance? And what were the costs? Thanks |
No I take from Vladivostok to Dongae in korea
DBS ferry I have donne nothing in advence so I have to wait 4 day in vladivostock It was about 800€ I think it was 1000€ for Japan It had to be payed in CASH ! that was a big problem cause i couldnt withdraw this amount (fortunatly if found french couple traveling in side-car so they could advance me the money) but your van is bigger so it can be more for DBS you should contact a woman I forgot the name xD (no sure if she is still working there, but she is really nice and speak perfect english ) She take in charge all the paper process otherwyse it's impossible I can guive number in private |
Thanks for the info. I read somewhere else on this forum about a lady called Tatiana?
You can send me details in a private message, that would be great. Our van is bigger and we are with 4, so yes we will have to pay more. That, and possibly not having enough time may be the reason why we don't visit South-Korea by car, because than you pay twice such a big amount. In what currency did you pay the large amount? In dollars? There was no way in Vladivostok to go to the ATM, maybe getting like 200 euro each day? |
I payed un Rouble but dollard should do the job I guess
by no chance I reach my week limit on my credit card (that was set really low cause in general I never take ou lot of money) I send you the number |
Thanks!

Hi,
Seems that we will be at least 2 on the road to Japan this summer :) ! I will be on a motorbike, and plan to leave France, Normandy beginning of July, and arrive in Japan beginning of August, through Vladivostok too, after crossing north-east of Mongolia. I plan to ship back my motorbike from Japan to Europe then, and have last week a first confirmation of feasibility through conventional shipment in crate by James Cargo. I'm also in touch with the Japanese interfracht team - seems to be in Roro there (i've read it is possible, some guy's already made it). So, keep in touch :) and perhaps see you somewhere on the road ! My bike is orange :) it's a KTM 1290 Super Adventure R. Cheers Jean-Michel |
Hi JMP you are in contact with Interfracht about Roro?
If you can share contact details it would be great because I'mooking for a quote for our campervan |
Hi Lovetheworld,
Yes I'm in contact with this guy : 'Nico Eden' (n.eden@interfracht.de); Very helpfull ! Specifiy that you are lookig for Roro specifically maybe ! Hope it will help :) Jean-Michel |
Thanks JMP. I e-mailed the guy but no response yet. Like many others unfortunately.
I'm also checking with NYK RoRo ferries. |
I made a video
it's long.... but for 70 days of travel resumed I consider ok ^^ it's mainly about landscape I passed by https://youtu.be/5MF2S95i6PU |
