Driving to the Gambia from the UK

Hi, I am looking to do a road trip, driving to the Gambia from the UK and as you can imagine I'm looking for as much information as possible to guide me to a safe and memorable trip.
Has anyone done the trip recently and/or planning to do the trip in the near future?
Ideally I will look to be travelling by January and happy to link up with as many others as possible.

Hi there! Me, my wife and our 2 dogs will be leaving for Western Africa just after Christmas (likely the 27th) from the Czech Republic in our van. We plan on taking it slowly from Morocco onwards to +- Nigeria and we will also be happy with some company, so if you want we can meet up somewhere along the way. Matt
