wadi haifa- sudan 4x4
 

hi,

apparently the ferry from wadi haifa to sudan is a pedestrians only ferry. How does one get into sudan with a 4x4?!

Now that's the key point to the adventure of travelling between Egypt and Sudan. There is a barge which can carry 4x4s but it doesn't operate on a standard schedule. Its difficult to contract the barge as the only way was via radio on the passenger ferry. Hence travellers who have previously done this route have been stuck waiting in one of the locations, going on to the passenger ferry when it comes in every few days to use the radio to contact the barge and find out if its coming. Eventually it does but some travellers have waited for up to 3 weeks. Also the cost seems to vary but it helps if other 4x4s have turned up at the same time so the cost can be split. If you search on the website I think I remember seeing some links for people that could be contacted to try and line up the barge.
