Shipping from Thailand to OZ - Options ?

Hi all,

after a year from Melbourne to Laos, I ran out of cash, I had to go back to OZ to earn some cash. I left my Landcruiser in Thailand with friends for a couple of months but now I have to ship it back.

What are my options, and which company would you recommend ?

Origin : Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur ?
Destination : I'm in Perth. I hear Fremantle is expensive, is Darwin a better option ? What about Melbourne ?
Companies : which would u recommend ? As far as I know, Toll does not ship from BKK or KL, have you had any experience with any Thai companies ?

Txs..
Brice

Shipping from Thailand to OZ - Options ?

Check port klang in Malaysia. Friends of mine just shipped to Perth. I will contact them and find out details if you like

Thanks TravellingStorm, yeah I went tru Port Klang when I shipped from Belawan (Sumatra) on the way up. But if I can avoid going all the way down there, since my car is in northern Thailand at the moment, that saves me a couple of thousand K...

Still, I did consider that option so yeah, send me the details if you have them, I'll contact the agent, maybe it's worth it after all :)

Thailand is not on the regular RoRo routes for Australia, most vehicles are shipped via Singapore, it would be rare to get a direct service if ever. I'm not aware of any vehicles built in Thailand being shipped to Australia, but maybe a Merc or two.

There will be plenty of services that go via Thailand and then onto Singapore - usually ex Japan and Korea. Offload in Singapore and then pickup a service to any major port in Australia. Any competent shipping agent here should be able to fixit for you.

Dont forget quarantine here - clean like new is the standard - inside and out. Quarantine has issued a standard for cleaners which can be downloaded. Thailand is on the endemic Foot & Mouth disease list now so you will have to be really sure that the underside is spotless.

Paperwork - dont forget that you need all of the import approval documents or a carnet stamped out by Aus Customs to get your vehicle back in. Weblookup VSB10 and Australian Customs - Vehicles.

Mmh yeah I feared KL would be the more viable option. It's an extra three days drive tho, give or take.

As for paperwork etc yeah I'm aware of the complications, I have the carnet obviously but it's the quarantine lottery I'm reluctant about. I met guys who went tru without a hitch, others had to pretty much take the vehicle apart.

Thanks tho. still hoping to find a shipper from TH :)

Hi

We shipped from Thailand to Fremantle using a guy called tim form expat motors in Bangkok. email : tim@expatmotors.co.th and their website is Expat Motors. really nice guy and the cheapest buy quite a way. He has a garage you can sort your car out in. We spent a week there cleaning!

Hope that helps

Thanks Simon, I'll get in touch right away. I'm also waiting for quotes from Cakra in Malaysia to compare. From where my car is, Loei in Thailand, to Bangkok it's roughly 600k. But down to Malaysia it's 1600 so that's an extra two days.

Thanks a lot for the contact.

Right so I found this guy in Bangkok (New car & used cars for sale, car rental bangkok, cars for rent thailand by siammotorworld.com), he's a Brit and does just that for a living, import-export cars from and to TH. He'll do the cleaning of the car and the shipping so pretty good address.

Now comes the question for the other side, I asked for quotes in Fremantle for the Custom Clearance and prices vary from $1800 to $3000 it's just crazy.

The breakdown of the quotes show the items vary from 50bux to 800 dollars, it makes no sense.

Anyone has used or know someone in Fremantle who's not trying to rip people off ?

Or better still, anyone from OZ knows anything about clearance, quarantine, port authorities etc ?

Txs.
