Is it really expensive to ship a vehicle to and from UK
Hi, looking at our options for overland travel in a LR110 - don't want to go round the world in one go so considering shipping costs to and from UK. Can anyone help with approx costs for
UK -OZ oz-UK UK -South America (or Central America) UK to anywhere else you may recommend as a good travel destination. We would prob only go for 1 or 2 months at a time |

Use the search function top right of screen ... +4WD +shipping +cost For a motorcycle the cost is about the same as the airfare for one person - economy class. |
I agree with Frank, if you're only going for 1 or 2 months at a time, the cost of shipping would exceed the cost or renting.
IE from OZ to UK would cost £1650 to get the LR over, and another AU$2500 to get it off the wharf, and that's just to get it there… Kai |
I paid US$2800 for a 31m3 campervan last year, Bristol to Brisbane.
If you have a carnet, then you pay about $180 quarantine inspection fee, $80 to $150 for the shipping company's port fees, then another $150 to $250 for the Stevedores fees - thats by RoRo ship though. Costs are about $2000 - $2500 for containers which are taken off the wharf for unpacking. Compulsory third party (injury) insurance is about $400 a year. If you dont have a carnet then you have to go through the rigmaroll of a temporary import approval - which is hard work at a Federal and State government level. You also pay import duty and GST - but you only get the import duty back when you leave with the vehicle. Its probably not worth the effort unless you are coming for 6 plus months and are travelling back through Asia and the Mid East. |
Advice given is fairly sound. I've shipped my LR110 twice. Once from Sydney to Tilbury and once from Cape Town to Felixstowe. Both cost in the region of £3k including containers, handling charges, customs agents, insurance etc. Its cheaper on a RORO but less secure. Partially depends on how long - if its only a few weeks, its an expensive way of doing things, how much you want to use you vehicle and what you class as expensive. I've been toying with whether to ship my 110 to North America for six months or fly over, buy for six months and sell. Likely to cost less buying and selling but my 110 is kitted up, I like travelling with it and I won't have the hassle of having to try and sell at the end so pros and cons.
Have fun |
