Do you travel local in your country during the lockdown?

We was aware of a ban on going out - and had the plan to leave into the nature before. Working in Homeoffice (like most of us in Switzerland has to) - works too in the nature. Solarcells give enough power to use two Notebooks and a Smartphone during the day.

Fortunately the curfew dont get reality..

So we just leaving severall days for a while. We did not use the roof box and side awning - to get less attention when entering the nature.

What we did: Overlanding during the Lockdown

Social distancing is probably better compared to staying at home.

Do you also travel during these times? Or even it is allowed to do in your country?

In Canada local travel is allowed in most provinces but some have put restrictions on their borders. Northwest Territories has passed a law requiring anyone who enters to quarantine for 14 days. Indigenous communities have asked outsiders to stay out.

Here in BC there are no legal restrictions from the Provincial government but travelling is highly discouraged and severely frowned upon by a large segment of the public. Some small towns' shops are refusing to sell to anyone not from the area. Makeshift signs have been put up telling people to turn around and go home. They have no legal weight but very few really want to ignore their wishes.

I do not do any overnight trips right now but there are quite a few people who head down logging roads to camp out for a few days.

I have done day trips on the bike, including one that was 270 KMs. I made sure to have a full tank and had lunch before I left so I wouldn't have to stop anywhere for services. A normally semi busy route was eerily deserted and a bit spooky.

Out here, we're mostly not welcome anywhere in the small towns and I intend to respect that.

No, I'm not travelling. In my country there is a law that says "stay home" and while I may take issue with bad laws I happen to believe this is a good one.

First and foremost: I _love_ your 200 cruiser, what a rig! :wub:

I live in the UK where we are under lockdown. Traveling to our national parks is discouraged in the strongest possible terms. Our National Health Service is under enormous strain, and people are dying, so it is a matter of consciousness to do as we are told for once and not put any more undue strain on the health service.

If I could imagine a situation where I could go traveling under these conditions, it still would not appeal: Everything will be closed and dead. A large part of the memories from a lovely trip is the social aspect, the nice country pubs and tea rooms along the way, the people you meet at hostels, and generally getting a glimpse of what life is like for other communities. I think it would feel a bit empty traveling now.

I am definitively missing it though, can't wait for all of us to collectively come out of this and hit the road!

Totally irresponsible to do at the moment

In switzerland it is legal to go out. Just keeping groups at max with 5 persons and 2m distance each - says the gouverment.

Nationalparks and famous outdoor hotspots are closed - because too many people try to go there.

So the intention of the goverment is, to keep the distance between the people and avoid any crowding. Going hiking, biking and walking is allowed.

So we just go into the nature, with not any interaction with other humans.

I love it to sit on the campfire with my girlfriend, doing bbq and beer.

With 300l Diesel, 85L Water, Fridge and Solar we also dont have to buy or interact with local people.

Looks like that is very luxurary compared with the law in other countries.

Stay healthy - where ever you are bier

Travelling is also strongly discouraged in Germany. Actually you're only allowed out of your home/garden for shopping, doctors and sports. Whereby sports means physical training and no motor sports like motorcycling :rolleyes2:


And when entering shops or public transport a face mask is compulsory. Groups of people are forbidden.


So - I do travel. But only in theory :thumbup1: I enjoy reading RR's and try to follow the route taken by the traveller and plot his/her route in MapSource/Basecamp. Might be useful in future months :mchappy: Besides that, there often are great photos in the RR's to keep you dreaming....

We did it again :-)

On the way back we got near stuck in a snow storm at 2300 @ Flüelapass - so we had an additional night in the snow.

As from today m/c rides are allowed again in Bavaria according to an interview with the Minister for Interior Affairs, Mr. Hermann. None the less social distancing is required as before.

As Scrabblebiker wrote, here in BC short distance travel is allowed but discouraged. I have thought about riding out to Port Renfrew or up Vancouver Island, but that is strongly discouraged so I haven't. I have been taking my 650 out for short hour-long rides on the local backroads just to turn the engine over and get some riding in. I feel bad for other riders who are not even allowed that bit of freedom.

The provincial government is talking about perhaps easing some restrictions before the end of the month, such as allowing folks to travel to visit extended family, as long as other social distancing measures are respected. If that happens perhaps I will go visit my folks in the Interior, all else being good.

@Ioannis: I just had pictures in my blog @ www.4x4tripping.com, dont use Insta or FB.

I had a additional fuel Tank mounted where usually the spare tire is, below the car in the rear.

Inside of the car I have two switches for fire two Pumps, Pumplines with Filter to pump to the maintank. Failovering because I near run out of fuel in congo, where bad fuel has cloaked the small filter between the two tanks (and a full 2nd tank)
