overland through Iran-Pakistan
 

Hi there

Does anyone have up to date information about driving though southern Iran and Pakistan? Starting a trip to oz in a couple of months and would be interested if anyone has done this recently.

The agent organising our Iranian visa's has said it is a no no, and although cost of shipping from Bandar Abbas is not too much its going to take a month!

Any thoughts or info would be much appreciated.

why have they said its a no no! keep trying know people have had to apply 3 times before a yes however this is unusual?

Hi, I am also waiting to leave for oz, just waiting for our house sale to go through.
I can confirm the commercial overland trucks and a few independents have recently completed the Iran-Pak-India route but you will have to cope with the police escorts which will slow you down.

they said i can do it but its very risky and i should look at other routes. I just wondered if anyone had done it recently and how doggy it was to do. Might just chance it and see what happens!

We're hoping to set off in the next week or so with 4WD

Iranian Visa very quick through Touran Zamin (applied 30th April - received Authorisation number on 6th May).

Indian Visa lodged on Monday - ready for collection on Wednesday.

Pakistan Visa has been referred - currently assessing our application including 4WD details; make, model, registration number, and even colour of car needed!

I just cant wait to get going....

I did the trip on motorcycle 2009 in September trough Iran and entered Pakistan at Taftan border then to Quetta, continued over the mountains to Multan and then finally left Pakistan to India at the Lahore border crossing. Police escort from Zahedan to the border and then more or less police escort all the way from Taftan to Multan, which by the way was FOC.

I had no problems with security just a lot of hassle with all the check points along the way were one have to stop and show passport fill in your name, nationality, etc in a book. The real problem was the road condition especially between Quetta and Multan which was when I did the trip basically a motocross track. I don't know if the southern route from Quetta to Lahore is any better but it's definitely worth a try as the road can't be any worse then the one over the mountains.
