Lake Nasser ferry prices
Hi everyone!
I'm currently detailing the plans for our Cairo to Cape trip at the end of this year and at the moment I'm trying to bring some clarity on the situation at the crossing from Egypt to Sudan. As far as I've understood the ferry is owned by a Nile Valley Navigation Company. However there seem to be a great variety of prices for the shipping. I've heard of everything from €300 to €1100. Could you please help me and others who are in the same situation by posting what you paid, with what kind of vehicle and when you traveled this route. If you have names of people to contact or other useful tip on how to make this part of the trip as painless as possible, I would be more than grateful! Thanks a million! Staffan |
Took the ferry north to south a couple of months ago. Cost $400 for range rover on barge and $45 per person on ferry. Total rip off considering the service you get all from con man Sola - (guy in charge) - we arrived with the understanding jeep in tow -a few hours behind - 3 days later it arrived. If you are lucky you can hang around in Aswan until you meet a group of Overlanding trucks as a guy we met in a 12 ton truck did and by making the contract with the overlanding company he only paid $250 for his vehicle. Waited 2 weeks in Aswan though. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your info. 400$ is a lot of money but I know about people being asked to pay up to 1200$! I've heard many stories about this Sola. Almost looking forward to meet the bastard in real life... Any tips on how to handle this guy? The tough approach or just smile like a fool? Regards Staffan |
