civilian camouflage
 

As my 110 is now a fugly patchwork of bare aluminum, scraped LR ivory and battered black steel, it's probably time to consider a respray.

I like the idea of blending into the background for inconspicuous bush camping etc. but am wary of looking too 'NATO' or millitaristic.

Any suggestions for colours? Things to consider? The local land cruisers (70's) often appear in a kind of sand drab, any idea what that's called?

Once your paintwork is dusty it will be reasonable natural looking!, go for pastel colours like sandy yellow. the biggest thing that will give you away though is reflective bits. cover your windows, lights and possibly number plates. the is the first stage of basic cam for military vehicles, if you don't have time to get your nets on you at least drape hessian over these areas. you can see a reflection from a window miles away.

Sounds like the perfect civilian camouflage to me (blending in perfect on crowded streets).:biggrin:
Looking like a bushtaxi or other local transport from a distance.

Just cover the car in water, and whilst still wet, chuck dust all over it.

If you want to take it a step further same but with diesel!

Bear in mind that from then on you will be enjoying the filthiest trip you have ever been on!

PS be very careful about using techniques difficult to explain away (hessian on windscreen!).

...any more bio-grime and some of the panels are likely to detach themselves and roam the desert on their own. ; )

Unfortunately, with all the white paint and bare Alu, the old truck is still about as subtle as a lunar lander once it's sat in a Saharan backdrop.

Draping a dusty tarpaulin over the front works well (returning from behind a dune it was hard to find my way back one day) but it all looks a bit 'Andy McNab' which, as Sam pointed out, could lead to misunderstandings...

Don't think I can face the blancmange effect, but maybe a friendly civvie version of the LRDG camo...hmm..

easy, it's to keep the interior cool, or use blankets, ex mil ones are cheap and a good colour.
