I am considering shipping a 4X4 to Australia and I wondered if anyone had some contacts, links and/or advice about shippers,costs and the regualations that apply to vehicles being brought in for a period of less than 12 months.

If you take it in on a Carnet then it should be straight forward. I shipped the other way Sydney - Tilbury and as rough figure it was about £3000 including shipping, insurance, customs agents at both ends, etc. Apparently Australian customs are very intense on protecting the country against diseases being bought in through dirt on the vehicle so it needs to be really clean. In addition, if you have wood fittings such as a wood lining on your roofrack then it will either need discarding or declaring. They may let you keep it if its treated wood.
