Siberia to Alaska

Hey,

Wander if anyone has advice about crossing from Siberia into Alaska? Chris Scott reckon that the flights have been dropped...so my planned rtw has hit a bit of a brick wall.
Thanks in advance, Dan

The Aeroflot website still lists the following flight:

Monday, July 2.
Vladivostok to Anchorage
DEP 1400
ARR 0145
Flight # SU855
Equip IL6

It is listed as flying the same schedule every MWF July and August.

Doesn't mean the flight exists, but probably means it worth calling Aeroflot's toll free number (888)340-6400 to get more information.

Cheers,

Christian

Never mind.

To be a better contributor, I called them.

They confirmed that the flights are cancelled for the foreseeable future.

Sorry,

Hai Dan,
You can take your bike by plane from Magadan to Anchorage for $5.5/kg with Air Magadan. This is the only airline between Far East and Alaska. Trip to Magadan must be great adventure in the right season of course, can bring you in kontakt with people who did it. Other way is to leave Russia with the ferry from Vladivostok to Japan (250 person, 100 bike)
have a great trip, Peter

Update for 2003

There is a man named Roger in Anchorage, Alaska that coordinates all air transports from Anchorage to Russia for Magadon Air. His direct # is 907-243-8677. The plane leaves anchorage every friday during the summer. It is their busy time and reservations should be made in a advance. Magadon Air Reservations: 907-248-2994. You will have to call two different #'s, Roger for freight and Magadon for tickets. Cost per person... varies around $500-$600US. Cost for bike is $4-$6 US/Kilo (based on weight and physical size)+ haz mat prep fees. The bike has to be at Magadon at least 3 days before flights for prep and for title/customs paperwork.

As for getting the bike from russia to anchorage, I would call these two people.

Let me know if you need any more info. Chuck

hola,

from vladivostok you can fly your bike over south corea to the US, but it is not cheap.

the road between yakutsk and magadan is very bad.

I went last summer (2003) on a honda 250 enduro.

contact Shaun for more infos of getting there with a heavy bike and flying with Magadan Airlines

I sold my Honda in Magadan

see you on the road

Magadan Airlines still quotes a flight from Magadan to Anchorage or vice versa. We felt that they could not give us good enough assurances on flight schedules and the bike must be quarantined for about 7 days in Anchorage if flying west. We are now pursuing shipping by boat from the west coast to Vladivostok. RTW trip take off April 20 from Kansas - 60 days riding time expected.
