Visa & people (Libya)

2 of us, both in our own toyos. need to find 2 other people - these people do not need necessarily to join us, but we need to proffer 4 people on a list in order to obtain the necessary visas... bit of a bummer really, but its the Libyan tourist bureas/agencies which we have to deal with, and this is their rule - a couple or three colleagues have reliably informed me about this, and so we must abide by their law in order to be able just to enter Libya.

So,if there is anybody out there - even if you are only thinking of flying to Libya, can I borrow your names (maybe your bodies?) to stick on a list so we can all enter Libya together?

I know the two will only be going on holiday to Libya, but if there is any chance that any of you wish to join us, even for a short spell of only a few days, than we'd be most grateful for your support, as I said, you don't have to actually join us in the flesh as it were.

We're definitely leaving the UK at the end of September/beginning of October en route through France from Dover or maybe Plymouth, Portsmouth or Southampton en route to Marseilles and then the overnight ferry to Tunis Port.

Please let there be a couple of takers!
Renate and co.

Hi Renate
Your itinery intrigues me. I'm looking for a way to get into Algeria Ahaggar then on to Morocco (via Timbuktu). I'll be flying to London on/around September 28, staying a week or so then leave Oct. 6th approx. I was considering flying to Morocco but going overland would be better. Is there a chance that you would tolerate another passenger to Libya and Algeria?
I need to cost this out before seriously deciding but if you are interested in having a stranger join up for the trip, I will consider it. I'm an experienced (female) traveller, thrive on challenges and a good cook and a good driver!
email me details if you are and we can chat about it.

Libya has stopped issuing visa
for induvidual tourists all according
to several posts
in the sahara-info.ch.
This statement came from the Embassy in Bern,
and Visa Service Bonn.
I am quite sure that there are not
(m)any examples who have actually entered
Libya, lets say, the last two month.
Renate, I think a trip to Libya is just fantasy at the time!

(Just edited this message, hope its okay)
Sorry to disappoint you, I WORK in libya as an archaeologist; for the work I do I'm not in Libya long enough to make it worthwhile obtaining work permits, and I believe I will be able to find other people and if I can't do it by any chance, than I have at least one Libyan colleague who will do it for me - he is currently in Libya at this moment in time. It will take just one phone call...

I thought it would be a good idea to offer this option first to the list, before reeling in Libyan contacts to help us in this; I see no problem with this approach.

So I think maybe it is you who thinks this is fantasy? I understand where you are coming from but nothing is impossible.

Renate

Thought I might resurrect this old discussion. Just got back from Libya - entered by unusual means end of June and spent two weeks in Libya; since heard from others (in Algeria and niger) that all other requests for entry have been denied. But, there is very little standardisation across the embassies - if you get the right person on the right day you may get lucky...

Sam.

ps Renate, back in UK on 16th Sept until 30 October...

FYI, several times over the last few years Libya gets into these strops and temporarily stops all entries to all or some nationalities - but then they relent.

So it may be bad now (for individuals certainly, though I thought the group of 4 system was OK) , but it should lighten up in a few months.

Maybe it gives them a chance to catch up on the paperwork and tidy up the office ;-)
