Twintraveller back from Alaska 16.08.2004

Twintraveller back from Alaska (Deutsche Version siehe unten)
==================================================
English Version......check for German version below

Hi folks,

we had wonderful summer in Alaska and arrived safe and happy back in Whitehorse. The 4 weeks in Alaska we had more sun than ever and just 2 days of rain, we rode from Valdez to Anchorage, where I replaced my chain thanks to Joern who sent it from Canada. Katja and I spent one week travelling on one bike down to the Kenai Pensinsula together with Frank from Cologne, who we met in Talkeetna. We had so much fun down there, camping at the Homer Spit with view on the glaciers, the mountains and the ocean, camping directly on the beach, while having breakfast the bald eagles landed 50 meters away from us and people gave us Halibut for Dinner. Katja and I celebrated our first wedding day having a pizza italian style and red wine from water cups, on a terrace with the view on the ocean and the glaciers. It was breathtaking.

The weather continued to be wonderful when we rode up to the Denali Park where we had a wonderful view on Mount McKinley (see pictures). After a wonderful day in the Denali Park, watching Moose, caribous, Grizzlies and other wildlife, we rode down the Denali Highway, a 200 km gravel rode, where we met two guys from the Netherlands on little Honda 50 cc Scooters who are planning to go down to South America as well. Crazy!

The last 3 to 4 weeks have been so wonderful that we sometimes could not believ it when we got up in the morning and it was again a wonderful day. Alaska has been more impressive than we thought and I would not miss any day of it. Now we are back in Whitehorse, we have to check through the bikes after being on the road for 17 000 km now, change tires for the first time, brake pads and this stuff, before heaading down south. In Alaska the fall started to come in and we will see where the winter will be faster and the first snow might hit us.

!!!!!!!!Deutsche Version !!!!!!!
