19th May - Slovakia

Had a lovely lie in this morning. Lovely breakfast of fruit, salad, eggs and pancakes with Nutella -yum! Managed to get everything dried on the radiators last night thankfully. Had a really good sleep. More stuff on the news while having brekkie about floods. It does look very bad. Still raining this morning.

Although everyone has told us not to go South we have decided to stick to the main roads and head South anyway and see what happens. And we are very glad we did. Never underestimate how much everyone else overestimates events! We had no problems at all. Took the motorway towards Krakow then E77 to South of Poland and into Slovakia and just kept going South. Even though the weather was wet in Poland we were still able to appreciate how beautiful the countryside was and Slovakia is no different. Very alpine again.

Once we started to cross the mountains the weather also started improving which was wonderful. Not much rain at all today. We wore our hi-vis vests today as lots of spray on the roads.

One random thing we have noticed is how pretty the cemetarys are in Poland and Slovakia. They are all really well looked after and full of flowers. It's been quite cold today as we have been travelling at high altitudes. We were planning to camp as we have only camped once so far due to the wet weather. However, we came across a lovely pension for 35 Euros inc breakfast.

Nice room with a beautiful view from the windows of the mountains with a stream running down the side.

We had a lovely Slovakian supper of fried sheep's cheese, cabbage and fried potatoes. We have endeavoured to eat traditional food in each country we have been in. In Poland we had Pierogi for lunch which was delicious. We have had no difficulties in any country with eating vegetarian food and have also managed to eat pretty healthy which is good. We are having another early night tonight. At 8.45pm Rich is already snoring away. We are starting early tomorrow. Hoping that we will be able to squeeze in an extra night in Austria with Debbie and Spencer which would be fab. I am really looking forward to seeing them.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events (22 this year!); we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, the HUBB or to receive the e-zine. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
