But when climbing to sierra things changed. Trees, shading, curves, ups and downs, and charming towns as Petropolis, made the ride a pleasant moment. The route is called “ Romantic Route “.

After a rainy night under beautiful araucaria trees, I couldn’t see the Itambeizinho canyon because it was closed at that time for visitors. Bajé por el camino en zig-zag que conduce a la entrada del parque, y en algunas partes era un río debido al aguacero que estaba cayendo en ese momento. So, I left from Serra Grande do Sul and rode to Florianopolis, where I expected to have a good beach-time with beautiful “vistas”. Again the weather was not at my side. Besides, the holidays season was over and only people older than me were at the beaches. I left Florianopolis a little sadly, I couldn’t see pretty garotas.

In a tourist information center I noticed a strange building, as a big Egyptian eye. It was Oscar Niemeyer Museum, the architect that designed many buildings in Brasilia. Two buildings were designed by Niemeyer for some government agency in Curitiba. Time after, the government decided to dedicate the buildings to his creator and made the museum. I immediately left for it.

En una oficina de información turística noté un extraño edificio, como un inmenso ojo egipcio. Era el Museo Oscar Niemeyer, el arquitecto que diseñó Brasilia. Dos edificios fueron diseñados allí por Niemeyer para alguna agencia del gobierno. Tiempo después, éste decidió dedicar los edificios a su creador e hizo el museo. Inmediatamente salí para allá.

Next day I went there. I was friendly received by my cousin Kaliny and and her family, being asked to have lunch with them at home. What a wonderful moment sharing with this special family. Her great-grandfather came to Curitiba from Portugal, a country next to Galicia, Spain, where most of the Lemas in the Americas have our ancestors.

Al siguiente día estuve allí, siendo recibido muy amablemente por mi prima Kaliny y su familia, e invitado a almorzar con ellos en casa. Qué maravilloso momento compartiendo con esta querida familia. El tatarabuelo de Kaliny vino a Curitiba desde Portugal, país próximo a Galicia, España, en donde casi todos los Lema de América tuvimos nuestros ancestros.

I reach the Vila Velha Park too late for entering that day. Looking for something different, I went to the Enviroment Police Station close to the park asking for some place to sleep. I was offered a bed into the room, but I chose the corridor closer to Suzi and some pets policemen have. Yerba mate was shared with me by soldier Nelson.

Llegué al Parque Vila Velha muy tarde para entrar ese dia. Buscando algo diferente, me fui a la Estacion de Policia Ambiental cerca del parque solicitando un lugar para dormir. Se me ofrecio un cama entro de un dormitorio, pero preferi el corredor ceca a Suzi y a algunas mascotas que tienen los policias. Compartimos mate con el soldado Nelson.

I left Vila Velha Park at 1:30 and rode continuous 570 km, dismounting from Suzi only once for P. I didn't want to get Iguazu late night. With varied and marvelous scenery, and the road in a very good condition, I didn't get tired. There were alternated forests and productive prairies, many food and grain-processing plants on the way.

Sali del Parque Vila Velha a la 1:30 y rode 570 km bajandomele a Suzi solo una vea a PP. No queria llegar a Iguazu tarde en la noche. Con un paisaje variado y maravilloso, ademas de una excelente carretera, es dificil sentirse cansado. Bosques se alternaban con praderas muy productivas, muchas plantas de alimentos y procesadoras de granos en el camino.

IGUAZU. Another wonder of nature at its best expression. Iguaçu Falls are not comparable, they are unique. Every angle you observe them, a new impression you receive. The river flow was not very high at this time, so I think they were more beauty though less majestic. Otra maravilla de la naturaleza a su máxima expresión. Las Cataratas del Iguazú no son comparables, ellas son únicas. Desde cada ángulo que se les observe, una nueva impresión se recibe. El caudal del río no era muy grande, por lo que creo ellas eran más bellas aunque menos imponentes. Ellas son invitantes, como diciendo “ hemos estado aquí durante millones de años esperando por ti, ahora disfrútanos, somos todo tuyas. Ellas no se detienen, pero la mano del hombre podría reducir el caudal con la alta deforestación que se tiene en el Estado del Paraná.

ITAIPU, " The singing rock ", the biggest hydroelectric plant in the world with 94.5 Megawatts produced last year, is close to Iguaçu, on the Paraná River.

20 turbines produce 90% of Paraguay and 20% of Brazil needing. Paraguay consumes only 7% of production, so it sells his exceeding to Brazil and this way pays the debt for the construction. On the road I found a place offering not only tropical-fruit juices, but also the delicious “agua de coco” (coconut water), the interior liquid of the green coconut. They don’t prepare it with some rum as in the Colombian Atlantic coast, but all the way it was very refreshing in that hot day

Looking in Guaíra for some camping at mosquito-hour (6 pm), I passed by the Civil Defence Firefighters Station. I u-turned and asked for some accommodation, say beside the water truck and the bikes in the garage. I was not lucky as I couldn’t sleep at the side of my Suzi. Instead, I did it on the air conditioned TV room, not worrying about mosquitoes. What a generosity from Campos, the official who received me.

Buscando en Guaíra por un camping a la hora del zancudo (6 pm), pasé por una estación de bomberos de la Defensa Civil. Me devolví y pregunté por algún tipo de alojamiento, digamos al lado del carro-tanque y de las motos en el garaje.
