Finally! Yes, finally I have some time and clear mind for writing, a not easy task while traveling as I just noticed after leaving. I´m now in Chiclayo, Peru, but let’s start from the beginning.

I flew Calgary-Toronto-Medellin without problems. In Medellin was Suzi (my Suzuki DR-650) waiting for me, who will be my bike and girlfriend for the next 5 or 6 months. In a week, while being with my parents, I got parts, installed a rear rack and case, tested the way for tying the saddles and made some rides to be comfortable with the bike, but mainly, with the local way of riding/driving.

My trip officially started at Kilometro Cero, a monument in Medellin that marks the zero for provincial roads distances.

Finalmente! Sí, finalmente tengo tiempo y cabeza para escribir, una tarea no fácil mientras se viaja tal como lo descubrí después de salir. Estoy ahora en Chiclayo, Perú, pero empecemos por el principio.

Volé de Calgary a Toronto y Medellín sin problemas. En Medellín ya me estaba esperando Suzi (mi Suzuki DR-650), quien será mi moto y novia durante los próximos 5 o 6 meses. En una semana, mientras aprovechaba para estar con mis padres, conseguí repuestos, instalé parrilla y caja trasera, ensayé la forma de amarrar las maletas laterales, e hice algunos recorridos para familiarizarme con la moto, pero principalmente, con la forma de manejar local.

After a warm good-by from my parents, I took the southern road heading that day to Manizales, high in the mountains to check the bike, that worked very well up to 3.600 m (11.000 feet). Después de una calurosa despedida de mis padres, tomé la carretera sur para ir ese día a Manizales y subir al Nevado del Ruiz para ensayar la moto, que trabajó muy bien hasta los 3.600 m. A esta altitude, cuando empujaba duro, ella vacilaba un poco por la falta de aire. Puesto que traje boquereles para mayor altura, no me preocupo.
