What yetis?

India can sometimes bring the fundamentals of life into sharp relief and watching whilst a family cremates grandma on an open bonfire of banyan wood alonside the River Ganges inevitably raised uncomfortable issues of our own mortality. So, it was with some relief that the clean, fresh Himalayan air of Nepal washed away granny's remaining smoke and ash from what's left of my hair as we entered Chitwan Wildlife Reserve.

We had 3 nights and a rather nice time at Chitwan with the obligatory elephant safaris, jungle walks and Nepalese stick dancing. So, we just thought it'd be nice to post up a few photos from the park.

We saw these two rhinos from the back of an elephant, but later in the day we came face to face with one as we walked through the jungle. On foot and less than 100 yards away is actually pretty scarey and the expression in it's eyes was reminiscent of an ex-girlfriend..

MaAndBaby.jpg

Beauty is a 3 month old rhino who was unfortunately orphaned after her mother was poached. It's only a few minutes for an egg, how long for a whole rhino? She's looked after by a local vet and totally adorable, I fell in love. Her skin is just so unbelievably thick (it feels like it's made of glass fibre or something) that it's amazing she can move around inside it.

There were quite a few of these crocs basking in the sun, but Adrian reckons they were so still because they were actually stuffed and put in place for the tourists.

So there you go! Only a short entry after the last epic Weblog, but we made it to Kathmandu and the end of the first leg of our journey. We're going to spend a few days looking around the area before organising freight of the bikes and ourselves to Bangkok. If the weather is good, we might even be able to get a view of Mt. Everest. Should also catch up with an old school friend, Rupert Smith, next week as he'll be in town.

Fabulous photos, glad to see you mastered the digital camera technology!
Hey I am finally having a party, sorry you wont be there but we will have your share of the alchohol no doubt!
Hope you continue to have a fantastic experience and we wish you a very Merry Christmas!

Hi Sharon

Lovely to hear from you! We're having a great time in Kathmandu and killing time waiting to ship the bikes to Thailand. Met some great people here too. But, I just can't believe I'm going to miss your party. Think I better fly back???? Let me know the date and I'll make sure we have a drink at our end. Anyway, have a lovely Xmas, stay in touch and maybe we'll have a party when I get back? Could probably have the slide show from hell as we've got over 1200 photos already....

1200 photos - boy am I looking forward to that evening - that should be so much fun. I'll order the matchsticks for my eyelids now!!!! Seriously, I'm sure they will be great as long as it's like match of the day -edited highlights!. Say hello to Rupert for me and watch out for the bowls they drink the yaks milk from -they stink. (probably no worse than Adrian).
Cheers Liam

hi scrotes

Anne wants a handbag for xmas, I'm thinking something snappy like crocodile skin? Sean could pick a female to run up to and snog for no good reason other than to assert his manhood, then Adrian wraps it up whilst it's stunned like a hedgehog in a high beam! Whadya mean no? Call yourselves adventurers?

What about a "sacred rat purse?" (same method and easier to fit through the letterbox?)

Hi chaps. Finally got hooked up! It's been really interesting reading about your travels. The phone call from india pricing up classic british bikes was a really nice, if somewhat unexpected surprise. Normal folk would bring back a wood carving or something woven from India.

Missed you guys when we went out in Notts to celebrate my birthday, but after the first few drinks to absent 'friends' things got a bit hazy and then didn't miss you at all the next day when I was doing my transparant man impression.

Porsche running well, but has warped discs so shakes under braking like a couple of motorcycle travelers looking for soap in the shower block of a bedouin jail.

Have a good Crimbo and don't bring anything back with you from Bangkok. I hear classic bikes are expensive there.

p.s. Any signs of the Swedish Female Bimota owners club on your travels?

Hi Adrian,

Long time no see! Saw Martin & Jay last night & Mart in his usual way confused the hell out of me in trying to give me the web address for you guys... however, by some minor miracle, I found you!!

So jealous of the photos, somehow photos of Nottingham in Winter don't quite cut it!

Hope you guys are having the time of your lives - see you in 2003!

Take good care and wave at Auckland from me when you get to Oz.

Where are ya, ya pair o' scrotes?

Saw Liam for a drink at the Malt on Thursday and strangely the toilets don't smell of old mans piss anymore......is that cuz Adrian hasn't used them for 4 months? Also redecorated and put the prices up! Liam said you thought people weren't reading the updates because of the lack of comments, so I can assure you we are, it's just that Sean's so damn witty it's a hard act to follow. Anyway, weather's horrible, wish you were here!

Watchout for the ladyboys,

TP

Hi Chaps

Hello from Bangkok and thanks for the comments, they're really much appreciated! Promise a full update as soon as anything remotely interesting happens....

Just about to head to an Island paradise for Xmas in company with the bedouin contingent of the lady boy Porsche owner's and purse makers club. Legendary BMW reliability is of course excellent as we wait for our stripped cylinder head studs to be repaired. On both bikes.

Oh, and Rupert was great - the perfect host, really looking after us in Kathmandu. Hope to catch up with him again soon at his home in the North of Thailand.

Cheers

Sean

Hiya Biker buds hope yr well and looking forward to an exotic xmas. Thought it about time I logged on again to be entertained by yr stories and various comments - glad to see Tim's finally learn't about the wonders of new technology and enjoyed reading all the comments. The entertaining nights out in Peterborough have been on hold for now but need to recommence after xmas (any takers) but bad news boys - Break for the Border's late licence has been revoked. Anyway have a great xmas and new year celebration I'll be thinking of you (may even see Adrian briefly I hear).
Take care. Luv Jxxxxxx

Enjoy reading your reports and log on every day for updates (after checking out lro.com, autotrader.co.uk, machinemart.co.uk, tescoonlineshopping.com etc.).

Mainly I do this at work, during lunch of course. My initial response tends to be "why am I (or we, including Jane) doing this when I (or we) could be doing that?". Well may be not quite "that", but certainly something that is not "this", if you see what I mean.

Your and Adrian’s exploits (and Liam’s!) seem to show that there is more to life than keeping the railway running virtually single handed. Question is, what to do next?

Keep it up!

Posted by: MJK on December 20, 2002 01:44 PM GMT

Well Michael, would you really want to be doing "that", surely you would rather be doing "this" instead. Depends on your definition of this I suppose, and as far as the railways are concerned get them to re-introduce steam which would be much more fun!! What is IRO.com ? And I think we are all (including Sean and Adrian ) wondering what to do next!!! Did you buy your lottery ticket..............

Coo-ee boys

TP here. Quick line to say we won't be meeting you in Sydney after all. We've cancelled our flight due to popular demand and everyone saying they'd miss us! No, really, we've decided to wait until the house sale is finalised before we leave...............so we'll probably still be here when you get back. Darn, darn, darn. Soak up some sun for me will you, I'm looking pasty.
