07. Chilkotin and Cariboo Country

Cowboy country and mountains

Starting the day in Bella Coola tokk its time, because "The Hill" 60 km east of the village is only open between noon and one pm!
So a long breakfast was a good idea and then I travelled with not more than 60 km/h through this beautiful valley!
The weather was great and finally I've arrived at the hill 20 min before opening.
It is a gravel road over the Heckman Pass (over 1500 m high) and on one part it has about 18%!
But it was dry and so problem to get over it.
After that waited a 40 km gravel road until Anahim Lake and I finished the day on a fine little campground at the Puntzi Lake (no fun - this is the real name!!).
The next day I travelled on until Williams Lake and have seen the Fraser the first time on this trip (but the last time!).

I went on until Lac La Hache, where I found a fine campground near the lake (is run by a German).
The evening was as good as all the others until now.

On the morning I was on my my way to the Wells Gray Park near Clearwater and it was another wonderful day.
I arrived at the Wells Gray Ranch where I took for this night a cabin for my own.
My neighbours were two german couples who were travelling from Calgary to Jasper and go on to Bella Coola.
So we could tell each other a lot of stuff and had a wonderful evening together.

'Sam Manicoms new book! is a gripping rollercoaster of a two-wheeled journey which takes you riding across some of the most stunning landscapes in the world. This enticing tale has more twists and turns than a Rocky Mountain Pass and more surprises than anyone would expect in a lifetime. There are canyons, cowboys, idyllic beaches, bears, mountains, Californian vineyards, gun-toting policemen with grudges, glaciers, exploding volcanoes, dodgy border crossings and some of the most stunning open roads that a traveller could ever wish to see.
