I am Cam Brookes, the artist formally known as
Accounting and Business teacher at a private school in Melbourne. At 26 I have
decided I should take to the road while I am young-ish and unattached.
The plan is to spend the first half of 2010 riding
a motorbike from India to Africa. The chosen weapon is a 2008 Royal Enfield
Thunderbird Twinspark. The second half of the year I plan to do some community
development and education work in Nepal.
The following pages contain the details of my trip,
from pre-departure planning, to technical details of paperwork and motorbike,
to stories of adventures had. Enjoy!

8 May 23 May. Delhi, Agra, Fahtepur Sikri, Delhi.
Having given up on a Pakistani visa when the embassy in Kathmandu told us it would be a 6 week wait, I was pleasantly surprised to be told by the embassy in Delhi that I could apply on Friday, have an interview on Monday and collect my visa on Tuesday. So, I applied on Friday and rode down to Agra to meet up with Torb again after his two week trek to the Everest Base Camp.

24 May - 16 June Dubai and Iran
Flying out of Delhi towards Teheran I had a stopover in Dubai and upon landing the thought popped into my head that if it wouldn't cost too much to delay my connecting flight then this could be a good chance to see the city that glitters with gold, black gold.

16 June - 3 July Turkey
Turkey has been a blast and I should probably never leave.
The border crossing at Bazargan, from Iran into Turkey, was straight forward, although I did get a little nervous at one point when we were stopped by a member of the authorities who appeared reticent to allow us through. STOP! What country you from? Where you going? hm. You like Iran?. When Torb answered yes we were allowed through but the man's tone made me think that if we had answered no we would have been in big trouble. You not like? You not go. You stay until you like!

'Sam Manicoms new book! is a gripping rollercoaster of a two-wheeled journey which takes you riding across some of the most stunning landscapes in the world. This enticing tale has more twists and turns than a Rocky Mountain Pass and more surprises than anyone would expect in a lifetime. There are canyons, cowboys, idyllic beaches, bears, mountains, Californian vineyards, gun-toting policemen with grudges, glaciers, exploding volcanoes, dodgy border crossings and some of the most stunning open roads that a traveller could ever wish to see.
