- WHY do we ask for donations?

What's it all about (and
what the heck is a souk, anyway?)
In response to popular demand, we've opened a Souk (store)
using CafePress
services. We've chosen them because we can sell products with logos without
having to stock the products, print the slogans, deal with the credit
cards and billing, or ship the products! Maybe we'll even have time to
go for a ride!
What's a souk? A souk is a marketplace or bazaar
in northern Africa or the Middle East. We just thought it was a more interesting
word than 'store'.
We've agonized over the pricing for these products. The
cost to us is not cheap (CafePress doesn't do all that work for free!)
and we're just as cheap cost-conscious as you are, so we wanted
the prices to be as low as possible. On the other hand, this represents
an opportunity to make a few dollars to offset our costs and time.
For those who may not be aware, Grant works
full-time+ on the website / bulletin board / e-zine, and Susan part-time.
(Her full time job enables the site to keep going - and feed us!) Grant has been full-time
on it since 1998. We are not a big multi-national company, just
two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown a hobby into an unpaid
labour of love.
You've told us how
important this site and it's Community is to you. We intend to survive, and have been trying to figure out just how for a
long time. Currently, the site is funded approximately equally from advertising, motorcycle travellers meetings and now sales of DVDs, t-shirts and other products. We are very grateful to the advertisers
we have, and hope to attract more, so if you know anybody who should be advertising
with us, please send them around! Ad
rates and information here. Coming to a Horizons Unlimited meeting is a great way to meet fellow travellers, and your meeting registration fee also helps support the website. Response to the Achievable Dream DVD sales has been very encouraging, so we're planning to produce several more this year!
Through CafePress, we also have a voluntary membership
scheme, which provides visible recognition for supporters, and something
you can wear with pride.
Pricing and Membership Fees:
We've decided to have three levels of pricing.

1. You can get t-shirts and other products at
a low Basic
Souk price (for example, the t-shirt price will be US $20),
which provides a profit to us of $5 per item. The 'no frills' products
will have the Horizons Unlimited logo and several slogans. |

2. For those who would like to provide additional
support for our efforts, we will recognize your support with 'Members
Products ' which will have a Members logo on the apparel
products, and more choice of slogans.  To buy Member logo products, simply pay your $20.00 Membership fee by check or PayPal (see below), and we will send you a link to the Members private store, where you can buy Member logo products at the same $5 mark-up as in the Basic Souk. |

3. Finally, for those who can afford it, and those
who feel they have benefited the most from the site, we will also have
a 'Gold
Member' series, where the apparel products can be personalized
with your name or HUBB signature, custom slogan if desired, and in
any language. To buy Gold Member logo products, simply pay your $45.00 Membership fee by check or PayPal (see below), and we will send you a link to the Gold Members private store, where you can buy Gold Member logo products at the same $5 mark-up as in the Basic Souk. |

Member Benefits
Currently there is no requirement to be a member to access the website, the HUBB or to receive the monthly e-zine. For now, what you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
What we are able to do, as a result of the major upgrade to the HUBB software, is to provide additional features which people who voluntarily contribute to the site can use, such as having more space for posting pictures, since people have asked for that, especially if they don't have their own website. The table below summarizes the HUBB benefits for members. Please note that we have taken nothing away from the privileges Registered Users have, we have just added additional privileges for contributing members.

What if I don't want to order online?
You can order through us if you
don't want to order online for any reason.
Check out the products in the store, decide what
you want, including the sizes. You can then send your order directly
to us by e-mail, specifying what items you want with which slogan,
and the sizes, plus your mailing address. We'll let you know the
total cost, and you can pay by PayPal or send us a check or money order.
We'll do the order through CafePress, who will ship
it directly to you. For our overseas members, we can accept checks
or money orders in Sterling, Euros and Canadian $,
in addition to US$. (What can I say, we've lived in a lot of places
and have a lot of bank accounts ;-)
Product Range
CafePress has
only a limited range of products currently available, (but are
continually adding more products to the range). We know you also
want black or brown t-shirts, cause that's how they'll look a few
days out, but CafePress only does white and grey so far. And the
titanium mugs will have to wait for awhile, till we see how
much demand there is. So get over there and buy
stuff! And if you don't see something you want, let
us know!
What if I just want
to contribute?
Some people have told us they don't need any more
t-shirts or mugs, but they'd still like to show support. That's
fine too. You can send a check for any amount, in US$, C$, UK£ or Euros. (As I said, we've lived in a lot of places and have a lot
of bank accounts ;-)
