Right, here is a detailed break down of the process of shipping our Land Rover (4x4 vehicle 110" wheelbase) from Melbourne to Buenos Aires.

The first step was to contact a shipping company, who after some searching we decided should be PIL as they seem to be one of the best and the cheapest. We have used them a few times before and they have allowed us to keep our battery connected and leave some fuel in the tank. The office in Melbourne is:

They are very helpful and will explain any costs you may have. We did not use an agent for anything as we had cleared the vehicle into the country ourselves so we understood the process, but if you do this you have to organise your own transport for the container to a place where it can be loaded and transport back to the docks, as it is not possible to stuff a container on the dockside. We used L. Arthur who very kindly allowed us to stuff the container completely by ourselves in their yard. However, because we came in on a Carnet before we stuffed we needed to go to Customs house on La Trobe Street in the CBD of Melbourne (you can
