Axel und Suse erkunden auf ihren betagten Motorrädern ein Jahr lang Südamerika. Nach einer Eingewöhnungsrunde durch Uruguay und Brasilien führt sie ihre abenteuerliche Reise – immer dem Frühling hinterher – durchs stürmische Patagonien bis ans Ende der Welt – Feuerland. Da es dort nicht weitergeht und zudem unangenehm kalt ist, steht das nächste Ziel schnell fest: Entlang der Anden in die Karibik. Auf 40 000 km erleben die beiden die Freiheit der rauen Gebirgswelt, die Einsamkeit der unwirtlichen Atacama und auf einer Floßfahrt die Tücken des tropischen Dschungels. Obwohl Suse bis zu dieser Reise über keine Offroad Erfahrung verfügt, bewältigen die beiden gemeinsam die höchsten Andenpässe, genauso wie tiefe Flussdurchfahrten und staubige Sandpisten. Die Autoren schildern nicht nur interessante Erlebnisse und spannende Begegnungen sondern auch die Tücken des alltäglichen Reisealltags. Das Buch soll keine Anleitung zum Nachfahren sein, trotzdem bieten die Tipps im Anhang einen ersten Einstieg für alle, die nach dem Lesen selbst mit dem Motorrad Südamerika erkunden wollen.
