Africa trips

Between 5th October 2010 and 7th March 2011 Rob and Sarah drove 31,925 kilometres (21,300 miles), took some 7500 photographs, travelled through 18 countries from England through Eastern Africa right down to Agulhas Point, the southern most point of the African Continent. They met many fascinating people,saw endless breathtaking scenes and befriended the most unlikely of animals.

We are a Swiss couple who travel with our Toyota Land Cruiser, called Mahangu around the world. We left Switzerland in September 2006 and travelled already some part of this wonderful world. August 1998, Geoff Kingsmill, a computer consultant in Alice Springs, Australia, wife Kienny and nine year old daughter Su-lin shipped their Toyota Troopcarrier to South Africa and then drove through to Europe.

Karin-Marijke and Coen, an adventurous Dutch couple, driving around the world in an antique Land Cruiser, model BJ45. We simply sold everything we had and started driving east. During our first 5 years on the road we travelled from Holland via Iran, Pakistan, India,China, Bhutan and Bangladesh to South East Asia where we visited Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.
Since January 2007 we've been exploring the beautiful countries of South America.
Some say we are the slowest travelling people they know, but for us it is all about enjoying the experience. We love driving on little roads and roaming around, getting lost and seeing what the world has to offer - tasting it, feeling it, hearing it and smelling it. Forget about planning; forget about our initial two years time-limit. This adventure has become our life, and we love what we do.

SOUTHING - Travels, photos & writing.

I travel around the Southwestern United States and Baja Mex whenever I get another paycheck exploring ghost towns, mines, and native American ruins mostly.
Sometimes I take my KTM 450EXC and most of the time I take my Toyota 4runner. It's a low budget everyman's take on "overlanding."

We knew travelling in Central Asia and Russia during the early parts of winter was going to be cold. Temps dropped to -15 degrees outside and almost -4 inside the 4x4. Wrap up warm folks.
