IVJ Tenere fuel tank alternatives

I have a 89 IVJ framed single headlight xt6 Tenere and would like to know if a fuel tank from any of the other XT models will fit on ( ideally over the stock airbox so i can choose which tank to use, but would consider changing to another airbox )
I don't mind doing a little fabrication on the frame for mountings. Would be happy with the smaller tenere or XTe tank if either will go on, or perhaps something entirely different. let me know if you have made another tank fit the tenere

You're probably not going to find one brand new anymore, but my 1VL (NZ New 1VJ) has an Acerbis plastic tank on it.Shaped similar to the factory tank but not as sharp in the edges where you knees go and still has the tunnel for the airbox underneath.

A 3AJ tank should fit IF you add the new mounting points.

I'm really looking for a smaller fuel tank such as one from a 55w tenere, ( frame looks very similar and it looks like it might fit..) or perhaps a 4tb, but would like to retain the IVJ airbox. don't mind making up new mounts, but does anyone know if any of the smaller tanks will fit over the ivj airbox ?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
