Depends on what is stock... the fuel tank and searpost or the rear fender.....

That rear fender looks to be from the 3TB model... Does it have a rubber-type thing that fits on top of that fender? does the fender have cuts/holes?

The fuel tank paint looks to be the 2001 XT600E but I can't see good enough through that picture...

You should check the CDI box (it's the black magic box that is under the seat and right next to the air filter snorkel!

There are some differences from year to year..

Also, on the right side of the engine casing is the clutch cable there or is it on the left hand side of the engine?

Also, so you can know which year that frame is from, check the VIN number and post it here! I had a Yamaha VIN number "decoder" which I posted here a few months back... one particular digit refers to the fabrication year!

that frame fabrication year is 1995 or under!

After 1995 Yamaha started to use a length of tube to connect the bottom of the frame (slightly above to the footpeg area) directly to the upper part of the frame!

I am absolute certain of what I've just said!

After 1995, with the change I mentioned above, the exhaust muffler no longer attaches to the bottom part of the frame. Instead, it goes behind the length of tube that I also mentioned above!

anyway, the guy on the ebay listing says it's kickstart...

so unless it was fitted (not from factory) you're looking at a pre 1990 model with a 2001 XT600E fuel tank and seat post!

the listing is at 320£ right now so... for that price it ain't too bad!

this one is good for the money: YAMAHA XT 400 Artesia BLUE. Great Bike on eBay (end time 21-Feb-10 20:14:10 GMT)

Vando, thanks a bunch for all your info.
I called the ebayer on Sunday to get more details on the bike. The ebayer mentioned that he had bought it from a chap who had had it stolen from him and then found and returned.
The ebayer bought it as a project but has had to sell it on for wife reasons.

All sounds a bit fishy to me as the listings of the ebayers previous sales are all vehicle/ motorcycle related....so Id imagine that he buys and sells taking a turn in profit. AND....Id imagine he'd know more about the bike if he were a trader, than he is letting on.

All that said ! - the bike starts (I believe) but is missing the clocks, rear lights and plate so aint roadworthy.

In your opinion, would this is a sucker buy ? - or do you see some value at that price ? Id have to pay an additioanl £130 to get it couriered to London.

Thanks again.

One more questions.....the other bike you sent the link for. This has 30k miles on the clock..not a bit high ?

Thanks

Personally I'd leave this bike well alone I could never be happy with a bike thats been stolen/recovered and messed about with by criminals god knows how its been abused when a straight well maintained bike at a good price will be just around the corner. You could or will have problems registering it or insuring it.

Nope.. they're "normal" per say.. My XT is the 1990 E model and has about 30000 to 32000 km (don't recall it) and I've heard on here many times the engine has done over 100'000 km with no engine problems...

Personally... If I could, I'd get either one of the links I mentioned... the blue one you could make it a project for yourself the same way I'm doing to mine or the black one that looks like just fill it with gas, change the oil and ride it lol

Anyway, Glad I could help!
Any questions just bring them on! and don't forget to lurk here in the forum from time to time!
