The was a guy in around 2006 that completed dakar on a xt500 with an oil cooler. His name Was "Henno" or something like that, and he was from around the nederlands.

Think this is the bike, the bottom one: XT500 Dakar..... - ::. UKGSer.com .::

XT600 Suspension

Following on from the above thread, does anyone know a way to raise the rear suspension on a Yamaha XT600z Tenere 3AJ ?
Please don't suggest fitting a longer shock or winding up the preload. As far as I can see none of these will work, seems the limiting factor is the suspension linkage.
Right now (using standard Yamaha shock) the suspension linkage pivot/shock mount is at it's limit and there is only slight clearance between the pivot and the swing-arm, fitting a longer shock or increasing the preload will (as far as I can see) only reduce this clearance !
Can other linkage/pivots be used ?
Just seems the rear end is too low compared to the front..

I've raised my 2003 xt600e.

I bought a thing on the german ebay (.de) and its called "Heckhöherlegung"

It was a buy it now item, and there are some from time to time.

Brian Williams 31 Aug 2009 22:59

Thanks for that, does it fit to the frame where the shock mounts or is it part of the suspension linkage ?

Jens Eskildsen 1 Sep 2009 17:26

It fits in the frame on top of the spring.

Theres a little plate i needed to cut to get it mounted, nothing fancy.

XT Suspension

@ Brian:

I have one of these top-of-spring-plates. And if you raise the back you need to raise the front, too. If not you are out of balance. I have also those aluminium cover for the fork that extend the front suspension. I do not use them! Both parts are for good for show and play but nothing serious for off-road. The hole suspension get instable and you have got one more point where it may break.

Only a longer shock makes sense together with a longer fork from another bike.

I've heard of the above problems, but never experienced it myself.

I think its nice, and it gives more ground clearence too, and the bike "suit" me better ( im 2 meters tall)

Heres a pic to compare seathight:

I think it looks more racy, and not so boring from behind.

I've seen those raiser kits and even tried fitting a longer WP shock to my Tenere (unfortunatly top of shock was to wide to allow airbox/carb hoses to fit). Seems that the linkage that pivots through the swingarm reaches it's maximium, touches swingarm and wont allow any more suspension travel. Have you had similar problems ?

Jens Eskildsen 5 Sep 2009 21:36

Not quite sure what you meen, but no.
