Well, if you're determined to carry one, one method I've seen is to get a unit for a fazer/similar, which has a trailing lead to a plug rather than having the plug as part of the reg/rec body (but is presumably otherwise the same). They then cut off the plug and replace it with a load of bullet connectors, and carry that around with all the mating halves of the bullet connectors.

If your reg/rec, or the connector, fails in the wild, you should be able to cut the original connector off the loom, and crimp the bullet connectors onto it, with the sort of tools you're likely to have on the bike (pliers/knife)

If your worried about the R/R and don't want to go chopping your leads, then you could just buy one to carry as a spare .After all there only £34.74p and free post and packing on Ebay

Geeez!
Another potential customer who could look elsewhere - either overseas, as MJ suggests, or to another bike manufacturer.

Maybe, just maybe, this ABS model is not being imported into the UK until Yam list prices have dropped in this current buyers' market.

But all the failures I've heard/read about have been in the connector.

The Connector burns out causing damage to the prongs in the top R / R.
This can be sorted by putting a small amount of vaseline on top of and in the connector before pluging it back into the R/R.

My point was, it's no use having a spare R/R with integral socket, if you've melted the plug that connects to it.

Or spending 50p on a heavier duty connector.

XT660 parts in USA?

I am meeting a 2009 XT 660 in a few days on an un-named island in the Caribbean. Rumor has it I should bring a few parts with me when I fly out of here, but XT's are not sold in the USA, so I'm not sure where to turn for fast, reliable service. Any thoughts? Resources? Swap lists?

For example: some bolts for the rear sprocket; a clutch cable; oil filter; maybe a sprocket or two. Nothing complicated, but some is bike-specific.

Unfortunately, I'm in a tremendous hurry, so if you're tempted to respond "later," maybe think about striving for "sooner." Thanks for any suggestions.

not in the US, but https://www.off-the-road.de/ specializes in XT660 parts and Thorsten is usually very helpful.

Thanks, duibhcek. Unfortunately, I'm in the USA and need a USA source. If I'd known a couple of weeks ago, probably your suggestion would have worked.

Wemoto in the UK will ship to the US -

Yamaha XT 660 Z Tenere 08-09 Parts at Wemoto - The UK's No.1 On-Line Motorcycle Parts Retailer

They say 3-5 days to the US. Don't know if that's quick enough.

Should cover everything but the sprocket nuts/studs, which ought to be pretty generic and available from any fasteners place.

The oil filter is common to all sorts of bikes which might be available your side of the pond (see the list on the right):

Yamaha Element Assy Oil Clean Pump Cleaner XT500C Dual Purpose SRX600S XT600EG Tenere XT600S XT600L

Try that site for the other bits you need.

ISTR the front sprocket is the same as a Honda NX650. Presumably it's also the same as a Raptor quad, as is the oil filter.

Hope this helps.
